I'd love him back in Buffalo for a couple years, but if his only criteria for choosing a team is locality to Philly we're probably too far away.
- Pierceme69

At this point, no matter where he goes he will have to relocate his family. Its not like Newark (the closest) is a short drive. Take you as long to drive to Newark as it would for him to Fly to Buffalo.

I would think Buffalo would he high on Briere's list because he does still have friends there, as does his kids. Also Montreal would be a choice with him being from there.

In the end I think he stays in the North East, but he will take the best offer.

Lupul, Hartnell, Eager, Upshall, Coburn, and Carter all lived in the block between Market and Arch between Front and 2nd. Lupul, Eager, and Hartnell in the same building. I think Richie was an honorary member, with a room at Lup's so he didn't have to drive home drunk to NJ. Harts does still live there and had that Christmas dinner thing on 24/7 with Braydon Schenn, Giroux, and I can't remember who else, taking them across the street to go to the Children's service at Christ Church, which has become a bit of a tradition. (Richie, Carter, and Hartnell and their families showed up the first year they all lived there).

The only one I ever saw around was Upshall.

I'm sorry, the only thing I could think of while your describing where all the players live is "stalker".

Dear Danny,

I watch the Flyers because of you. I started watching hockey because of you.

You caught my eye immediately. I could pick you out anytime you were on the ice. So I learned your name quickly, and learned to enjoy your play even faster. Even after spending time learning the names of your line then the whole team I could not shake the joy of watching you play. I asked for your jersey as my birthday present a few years ago.

I just want you to know that there are people out there who care for you not because of the goals you score but rather because you make the game worth watching. Thank you.

I’ll be watching your games and cheering you on whenever you touch the ice no matter what team. You'll be missed.

FlyersGrace

Say what you will, he's was good for this team. And I understand why he's leaving. He was never perfect on or off the ice, but I'm proud to have been his fan. And I don't say that lightly or often.

Personality and leadership aside, I'm not going to miss Briere as much as I did Gagne. Briere was a streaky scorer. The fact he performs so well in the playoffs and not in the season is indication he doesn't give 100% all the time. He was also worse then poor on defense. When playing center, you have to have at least decent defense. I think his struggles when on wing had more to do with just not being happy there then his ability to perform. He also took the worst penalities at the worst times. Too many tripping penalities for a guy with his speed, and way too many retalitory penalities. And I have to admit, there is resentment that a player making that much money, performing average for his contract at times, handcuffed the team because he would never accept a trade if asked.

I know people are sad, and I am a little too. Its not like saying goodbye to Shelly, but its not like saying goodbye to Gagne or LeClair either. I think right now there is some "revisionist" history going on.

- youarewrong

Or he was able to raise his game to another level in the playoffs. Versus not giving 100% in the regular Season. It's a shame. I think the time now is to celebrate Briere based on his playoff performance, and the type of guy and teammate he was here as a Flyers. That's what he deserves. Certainly not the above post.

I think Hartnell might be the last of that group you mentioned (that started with Forsberg, actually) that lives in the city (the Old City section, I think).
- johndewar

Forsberg lived somewhere closer to Rittenhouse. Away from the "bro's" section of town

Just being "real". Not a fan of glossing over the facts because people are sad. Besides, not like he is reading my post and crying about it.

If you say so. Part of the facts that you glossed over when talking about his regular Season production is all the injuries that he had, that affected his regular Seasons. If were going to talk facts.

So moving onto Silly Season talk... Would you rather:

1. Trade Coburn, 11th overall for 5th overall.

2. Trade Coburn, 11th overall for B.Ryan and 26th overall pick.

3. Stay at 11.

Hey, so slightly off topic, I'm set to participate in the Epilepsy Foundation Eastern Pennsylvania's Summer Stroll. My sister, diagnosed with epilepsy a couple years ago, pulled together a team and we're looking to raise a bit of support if anybody is interested. Donations are tax deductible, and are confirmed to fulfill any 'good deed for the day' requirements. Also, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks, we now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

No. 2 if that pick is coming back our way. Don't really want to trade Cobie, but Mez and the 11 isn't going to get it done.

As Justin Bourne is famous for saying any number of times, offensive skill players are their own animal.

They're not going to have that "Give 110%, 100% of the time" mentality that depth players have to cling to b/c that's the only thing keeping them in the show. They're going to do their own thing, hide in the weeds, saving their energy for those rare scoring chances and big moments.

Danny's pretty much that kind of player to a T.

I don't think he wasn't trying in the regular season as much as he was being judicious with his energy and efforts, especially as he began to creep up in age.

Not saying it was. Briere had his good points and his bad points. I'm just not going to praise him like he was the Flyers Savior. I'm not happy to see him go, but I'm not sad either.

To be honest it wasn't the streaky scoring that really got to me. It was the dumb ass penalities that make Hartnell look diciplined.

Coburn's like Carle... fans won't realize how critical he is to the club until after he's gone.
