The only way I trade Skins is if Nish is there at 5.

I would love the Col trade for Johnson. The whole trade would be skins and Mcbain for Johnson, O'Brien, and a 2nd rounder.

I think Col only does this if they take Jones 1st.

Gives the Canes a really good D set in

Johnson-Pits
Gleason-Faulk
O'Brien-Harrison

Murphy is the number 7

COL would still have a solid D They have all their young guys already with Seimens ready to go and Jones being drafted.

A couple problems in my mind:

1) While he is not horrible defensively, his leans offense. Especially if the Canes are going to spend ~$7M/year, I think they would want a player with more pure shutdown ability.

2) The size and uncertainty of the salary might also deter them. $7M for how long?

And that is only after you trade a bunch of stuff just to get him. Too much cost across the board.

Couldn't be more wrong about Letang. He can take anyone one on one. The thing with him is Bylsma hasn't given him one defensive partner. He had four different ones during the season. Plus, Bylsma is asking him to be offensive only pretty much every game. That's not Letang's game. He's an all around, physically talented defenseman. That's when he's at his best.

Number one, if you run the numbers on cap geek, drop pronger briere and bryz( who im quite aware has not been bought out but thanks much for pointing the obvious out) it shows you have 9 mil available with the current roster. Obviously this wouldn't include moves you'd need to make.

Number two, I didn't say " Hey I want to make this move" I asked the Carolina fans a hypothetical question as to if that's what they think they'd be looking for. (Also meant to say other picks from both teams to balance it out, not just another pick from us. That was my mistake.)

First you can't just drop Pronger, sorry he is injured and cannot be bought out or anything like that. He can be put on LTIR, but that does not give us cap space it can give us cap relief but not his total $4.9M salary. In LTIR you get cap relief that is the player's cap hit minus the current cap space and that is how far a team can go over the cap with a player on LTIR. Right now you have to count him against the cap and he is not going to give you cap room until the season gets closer. So no we do not have $9M, after buying out Bryz we would only have $4M and even if you could put pronger on LTIR after that it would only give us 900k in cap relief. We likely will move Mez and that would give us around $8M in cap room. But if Homer decides to keep Bryz, which it seems like could be possible , then even if we trade Mez we will have roughly $1.4M in cap space. Not a lot of wiggle room there for signing players and adding salary.

As far as the draft we should not be looking to move up at all period. We have nothing right now in the minors and we need some more younger talent. I would be fine with even trading down if the board isn't falling in our favor or if one of the to 10 offensive players drops out of the the Top 10.

I doubt Smid goes anywhere unless its for an upgrade on D. That's why I highly doubt the Canes are good trade partners. Both looking for the same thing.

Eberle +7th + for OEL is ridiculous. Never happening. You just listen to MacT for one second to realize it. The Oilers are not going to open a big hole on theroster to close another one and he has said multiple times that they value all the young guys more than other teams. They are not untouchable but he has said its "highly, highly unlikely" that they get traded and if they did it would need to be a knock your socks off offer.

I could see Smid being used + the 7th to get someone that is an upgrade. But dont count on it.

There is no way the Sabres are giving up Ehrhoff for McBain and the opportunity to move up 3 spots in the draft... unless Barkov were to fall to #5, there isn't anyone worth that trade off. Now, if Carolina includes Skinner in the deal... then maybe we can start talking. Otherwise, the best you'll get is Sekera and #8 for McBain and #5. Sabres give up anything more than that, then Regier truly is a fool. Sekera honestly is better than people give him credit for... he was at his best during the Olympics, but he plays solid minutes against the opponents top lines every night. He has more offensive upside than Buffalo's system has allowed him (again, demonstrated during the Olympics). You probably think I'm nuts about Sekera, but if you watched the Sabres' games each night... you'd see he's their best skating Dman and always matched up against the opponents top players. I wouldn't mind if Buffalo dealt Ehrhoff, but the return has to be better than McBain and a couple of spots in the draft... even if they need to include someone else for Skinner, he would have to be a part of that deal.

Apparently some folks here don't understand how good Skinner is, when you think he'll be thrown into a deal!! No way does he get traded for anything less than a top2 D-man! So a Buf. trade (#8 for #5) isn't going to involve Skinner!

I had forgotten ehrhoff had such a low cap and they paid the majority of it on the front end. The more I think about it, the more I like his financial situation in relation to Carolina. Only thing is he has a NMC.

4mil salary cap. His big 10mil and 8mil seasons are already paid off. 22mil left over 8 seasons which is really like 2.75 per year average with a 4mil cap hit.

I'm not sure Ehrhoff is the answer, but it is definitely something you have to stop and think about.

Statistically, ehrhoff was a top 5 defenseman in the NHL. just on a terribld team.
