We don't know that he's gotten it yet. I would love to see the smoke coming out of his ears as he tries to connect the dots though. |

I think they missed the fact that you were referring to the capital "I" missed later in the sentence, not the spelling of Kasper.

I'm not sure what's more funny. Their misinterpreting what you wrote or your lack of confidence that you were in the right!

On Nilsson, since he seems to be the talk of the town goalie-wise...unfortunately the season I got to watch BPort happened to be the season Nilsson struggled with the mystery illness, so even though I saw him start a bunch of games, it's tough to draw conclusions considering what the guy was going through. But, just from what I saw, Nilsson's main drawback is also one of his strengths. I suppose a bit like Roloson, Nilsson's good at anticipating plays and out-guessing shooters. The problem seemed to be when he'd rely a bit too much on that and not enough on reacting to what actually happens, so when he guessed wrong, he'd get beat badly. Some games, particularly, if I remember right, his first couple of starts, he'd be in the zone and perfectly blend anticipating shooters and reacting at the last second when needed. Other nights it just didn't go so well.
Other than that...he looks big in the net...bigger even than Koskinen -- even though Koskinen has more size, Nilsson's positioning is better. And he can absorb shots without leaving rebounds right in front. Wish he had Poulin's reflexes, but then, I wish Poulin had Nilsson's positioning. |

Of the three, it was Koskinen who was the most highly touted. Apparently Sudsi begged Garth to draft him as he felt the kid was a franchise goaltender in the making. I'd love to see him come back over and compete for the job, but I do think Nilsson can ultimately be a #1. With Poulin, I thought he showed some pretty good sings with the Isles this year save for one really bad outing. He looked very controlled and confident during his 55 minutes against the Pens in the series.
so many of these kids can look terrible when they get nervous with the extremely fast puck movement in the pros. It causes them to overcompensate (as you mentioned with Anders). Eventually they learn to become more economical with their movement and settle in. That's exactly how Lundqvist made a quantum leap from fringe goalie to franchise goalie. I think Anders can do the same. Poulin is a wildcard.

I know Poulin has his issues, but I'm a fan. Thought he had some rough outings this year in Bridgeport, but a few brilliant moments too. I know NYI78's down on him becoming a starting goaltender, and he's gotta tighten up on the rebounds...but I think he still has a chance...his reaction time is excellent.

I think Poulin needs extensive time in the NHL, not the AHL. As good as the AHL can be for developing base techniques, it's absolutely not good for true NHL development. He needs to see the game at NHL speed and be allowed to adjust to it. He's certainly not going to do that with 4 starts over two months. Give the kid 25-40 starts this year and see what he does. If by the trade deadline he looks like he's not catching on, send him to the A and bring Nilsson up to try the same. This way Nabby (or whoever) remains fresh and ready when the playoffs roll around....provided we're invited.
