I'd actually prefer a "less is more" offseason. I know the Isles have holes to fill, and that you have to give to get, but I like the idea of Nelson, Strome, Nino, Donovan and Reinhart suiting up for the Isles over the next two or so seasons (some as early as next season, others maybe the one after). If it takes any of those guys to get, say, Bernier, then I'd rather pass, be a bit more patient, and wait for them to fill the holes we have over time up front and on D. By that time, I'm confident a longer term answer at goalie will present itself...either in-house or by FA or trade. In the meantime, maybe bring in a goalie that'll cost less in assets (Halak?) for the short term. - UIF
I agree with the exception of I hope Snow makes an effort to bring in a 3/4 physical dman. I think that will add a lot to our team. I wouldn't be completely opposed to adding a goaltender by any means but like you I'd rather it happen without having to give up a prospect. As for the rest I think you have to see how these guys come out and give these up and comers a shot. Can't wait to see these kids play finally. |

Good cause I am happy to hear that. This team still has issues and I want to see if Snow has any brains to fix it. My answer is no. I would be happy with a goaltender, a defenseman and a winger for JT. I think that might be to much for Snow to handle but I am sure he can put his big boy pants on and do something - kasperrko
Strome, Donovan, Poulin... simple!!!
Unless you are bringing in Bobby Ryan, Ryan Miller, and Keith Yandle??? |

Poulin I don't think will help much the other two might. I guess everyone on here just gave on free agency huh? I know we are used to Garth doing nothing so I guess we all figure we wont get anybody |

My worry is that these guys are prospects and that they are not going to pan out. If we can grab a guy like Bernier I say we try. We don't know how Nilsson and or Poulin are going to pan out and as we know goaltending is huge in making playoffs - kasperrko
You could maybe say the same for Bernier though. There's always a risk with players who haven't had regular NHL roles. It'd be quite a setback if the Isles unload a top prospect and their first rounder, and Bernier wilts in the really big spots down the stretch or in the playoffs. Or has a real good run then fades out of nowhere like what seems to happen with quite a few goaltenders. You never really know, I guess. But I do think good goaltenders will be available two seasons from now if we can't count on Nilsson or Poulin. Aside from free agency, there's always a good up-and-comer stuck behind an established starter somewhere, with the team looking to unload one of the two.

everyone is focused on bernier (for obvious reasons) but how about speaking to the ducks about Jonas Hiller AND bobby ryan...
they seem like they could be nice dance partners considering they are right at the ceiling and could use some relief... id propose something along the lines of
nino + 1st+ poulin + 2nd tier prospect (dehaan/lee...)
for
Hiller + Ryan
we kill 2 birds with one stone...get a goalie and a top line forward:
bobby ryan is slotted into the top line forward spot nice to JT, hiller is old enough and proven that he can play a solid goal & isnt too young to kill nilsons value.
then they gotta get a top 4 dman, obviously much easier said then done...but all of a sudden the isles are a top 5 eastern conference team if garth can get those 2 out of Anaheim...
i know NY178 loves nilson and ive never seen him play so i cant say one way or another. but i wonder how much faith management has in him (and the other 2) considering garth already said they plan on drafting a goalie...i could be nothing, but it makes me wonder... |

ya probably and obviously thats the debate of how much to give up for those 2 but the ducks need to unload players to stay under the cap... |

Kasper, Bernier is a prospect too. He's only started 60 games in 5 years. I think it's a 'grass is greener' situation with him. I'm not saying he isn't the real deal, but no one can confidently say he's more of a sure bet than any of the previously mentioned prospects we have.

I guess so. I don't know right now I don't have much faith in Poulin. I saw him play a few times and he like to dive and throw his body from side to side. He just looked well all over the place. Now Nilsson, I just remember when he had a cup of tea with the Islanders a couple of years back so I am hoping he turns out the real deal |

If he goes Id hate to have him remain in our conference. I think he's going to be a good one |
