I have a funny feeling the Isles will be on Briere's short list of teams to join. He stated during his adios press conference yesterday that he doesn't want to move his family so he'll be looking for a 'nearby' team. So Washington, Rangers, Islanders and Devils all have to be considerred his destination of choice.
I see Briere more as a second line player but can't dispute that he'd be an upgrade over Boyes if Nino doesn't stick around. Still, his last two years have been rather unimpressive (104gp 26g 43 a 69pts). It would be a cheap alternative for Garth to provide an experienced yet very talented option for JT.

I was looking for a link to sortable waiver transactions to help prepare you but couldn't find one...maybe on the isles team page?

I don't think he should do much except the possibility of a goalie or top four dman. He has to see what he has with these kids, okposo, Bailey, etc... You never know though this can be the year where he actually makes moves? I wouldn't be surprised with anything happening picking at fifteen. He may be more inclined to trade it this year? |

Thought Briere would have been excellent for the Isles last time he was an FA, but he was priced out of here quickly, and I'm pretty sure that was the year when Smyth was telling the Isles they had a shot at re-signing him even as he was halfway to Colorado. I don't know how cheap Briere will be this time around. At 35 I don't think he'll get crazy years, but I don't think he'll be had for like $2M either. Maybe, but I bet he'll get a nice amount of money for like two years, and maybe a team foolishly adds a third year to seal the deal.

I don't expect much other than perhaps a top line forward. I would really like a top pairing dman but Garth didn't exactly say that was of great concern to him. Of course he could be playing coy and just waiting to see what options remain. Staple said, yesterday I believe, that the teams top priority is a top line winger. That means Boyes is definitely not coming back (IMO). Sorry Kencan....maybe another relationship will come along soon

I can agree with that. I almost inserted in my fist comment 2 years @ $3.5 per season should do it. I'd be okay with that but nothing more. Still, I'm not so sure he's the type of player I want on that line so unless a spot is available on the second line and we keep either Okposo or Bailey on the top line, we're probably better off to not sign him. Flea sized players @ 35 tend to fade pretty fast.

I would pass on Briere. I'm fine with the Isles not making a lot of moves but if they do make a move let it be some type of impact player. Just stay away from the Boyes type moves. |

I agree with making an impact player move if anything but briere is better than a boyes type. Proven playoff performer, scores clutch goals. Not saying I'd be huge on him coming here. I'd be worried about how Capuano used him. He'd prob give him twenty five minutes a game. |

I thought he had some issue with his spine too...but I can't remember for sure. But he is a sneaky player who always seems to come up with a big goal when it matters. Isles could certainly use a presence like that.

And with Briere we'd have to re-sign Trevor Gillies so they could relive this moment:

Giroux had something wrong but not Briere (to my knowledge). He has had a concussion or two though.

]I just suggested this trade to test the waters and to get some discussion going but someone is going to over pay for BR. Anaheim wants "D". They want to get younger at that position. We have more then enough "D" prospects in Jr, Bridge and LI that we can afford to give up one or two and never notice their gone. Nino seems disenchanted with the franchise. There will not be enough room in a yr or two to accomodate all these prospects who will be figthing to make the Isles. Bobby Ryan is a very good player. Nino, AMac and the #15 is not over payment in my book for a guy like him. Especially with a draft pick coming back. If DeHaan is the deal maker or breaker. Send his scrawny injury prone a$$ along with them before he files an insurance claim! ] - SCLI
this is overpayment...if we can add poulin and hiller than id do it...
Nino, Amac, #15, Poulin, dehaan

Your rite about Philly, but if the kid come here 1st, nobody leaves NYC for Philly...
ask Nabby, Viz, Weight, Guerin, etc......
Plus the Isles will be a contending team, no reason to leave.... - Ur Not Me

I like how no one is too eager to react...the one guy behind Briere tells on him, but that's it. Gillies was like an escaped dangerous zoo animal...completely unpredictable once it's loose, and even though everyone knows it has to be stopped, no one really wants to risk doing anything themselves.
