Yup! All are doing well. M4 was here Tuesday night and joined in the revelry with the grandparents. Mom & baby (J1, per ob18) are doing great. Hopefully we go home tomorrow.
- Flyskippy

get him started in hockey early so when he becomes a star goalie he will get the big bucks

What problem? Sounds like you just suggested that bernier is similar to bryz. I don't see the comparison. What specifically about bernier would make him a backup goalie in your opinion.

they had Bob, they are always searching for something?

Schenns hit is already 3 mm. Coots had an off year, but if he can duplicate his rookie year he will get paid.
- section32

Schenn's cap hit is all bonus based, and I don't think he's ever seen that money (i.e.playing 25+ minutes in every game).

I think bernier has the athleticism and skill set to be better than Bob. I think mason and bernier would make a great tandem to challenge each other for the permanent starting job moving forward. Neither demands lots of starts like bryz did. Both are 24 years old. Both have potential.

Quite frankly if they both play well and we have to trade one they'd probably fetch a similar return as read if not more down the road.

my opinion, backup goalie

So you don't think that Bernier can be a starter in this League? How do you know that?

Cap space wont be an issue with resigning players. I fully expect the cap to be near what it is this past season. Remember it's based on hockey revenue. Revenue has been increasing, and did under the lockout as well, it will continue next year also. So not only will we get an increase of 6-8 million in the cap, we will get 6 million from Timonen's contract.

And I have to disagree with bill. I think Schenn's and Couturier's contacts aren't going to be in the 3 million range unless they sign long term. I think you will see similiar contracts that Simmonds and Voracek got when they came here. Short 1 or 2 year deals for 2-2.5 million.

they just need to find a goalie and stick with him, maybe a french goalie is a good thing?

Exactly! No I don't know. But I'm not saying it's overpaying.

We don't know, but it's more than I want to pay for him. Read should be enough on his own, and if another team is offering LA more than Read then let them get Bernier.
- Feanor

Right, we don't know. But if Berneir was to come in here, and solidify the Goaltender position for the next decade, would it be too much to pay?

If he performs this year as he should then I would expect his next deal to be in the same range given his projected ability. Look at G's current deal. I get its a big "if". But Schenn was projected higher than G.
- section32

PK Subban's bridge deal was 2 years at 2.875M. Who was projected higher in the draft is irrelevant at this point.

Crazy day at the hospital yesterday with tests, feeding, diaper changing, and all the accoutrements that accompany having a newborn. So...

I just had this premonition from out of no-where that the Flyers are going to go for Buff. Don't know why. I'm not saying I want it to happen. I just have this feeling. And they use Coburn and Meszaros to move up in the draft, and Read and Mason and a 2nd for Bernier... This is so wierd.

I agree. I think they have a young core of solid forwards (with more in the minors)... Wrap up bernier and mason in net, both young, then start revamping the defense. I do think it will require one of coots or schenn to do so but not yet, not right after a down season.

Does LA have a back-up goalie ready to fill in for Bernier? If not then I think a deal of Read & Mason might get the job done. Mason is cheaper then a good back-up would be to sign and might be what LA would want.

Personally, I'm not sure I would do this, but it makes me think....

I think Bernier has yet to 100% proven himself to be a starter. I really don't know the type of cap hit he deserves. Whoever gets him will overpay for his services. Hopefully he will pan out for whatever team.

Oops sorry I meant to add a question to my post.

You can argue "if" values all day.

If Seth Jones is really the next Pronger/Weber, is it too much to offer your next 3 1st round picks, Matt Read, and Coburn so that your blueline has an anchor for the next 13 years? If so, we should do whatever is necessary to get him.

So yes, IF Bernier turns out to be the next Lundqvist, no Read and+ is not an overpayment. But Read is at least a somewhat known good whereas Bernier has never had to carry a full NHL workload.

Two issues. What are they trading for Byfuglien? And does that fit into the Cap?
