I don't lile trading Read. We are in a cap strapped year. Who do you replace him with?

Bobby Ryan, duh.

He would need to land some hardware or at least be in the conversation to get him in the 8-10 mil range. This past partial season didn't do his contract negotiation any favours. I thought he took a step back as far as his ability to take control of a game and that's something I expect of someone earning that type of coin.

Agreed. Thank god for the Couture deal. 7 seems reasonablem. He rarely forechecks.

Do you think he's more or less of a risk than Zadarov? They seem to be fairly equal with opposing strengths. Zadarov on the backend hoping to add scoring and Polock scoring but needing to tighten up the D.

From what I read on Zadorov he looks like a better skating, less mean version of Luke Schenn. While it wouldn't be a reach per se, I think the Flyers are more hungry for Pulock's skill set - he still offers a good potential all-around game.

He captained our team last season and is 4th in total points among all players in the NHL over the past 4 years.

G wasn't in the Top 30 this past season for Goals. He's very good creating assists, but clearly that stat is dependent upon having teammates finishing what he sets up. And nobody could think that not making the playoffs during his first year of being Captain is any sort of endorsement for being paid the big bucks.

I don't think anybody would deny him a raise, I just don't think he's done enough to be paid like one of the best players in the league yet.

Granted, the Flyers are hoping he's under-paid for his production near the tail-end of the contract in his early 30s, and maybe that's exactly what will happen.

adam hall takes his pk spot and hopefully schenn and couturier rack up more scoring
- Don'tForgetTocchet

Intelligent response but not sold. Hall was on waivers for a reason. Read just got serious time for team Canada. A real step back in a position of need IMHO. I'd perfer a vet UFA goalie. Halak's one year deal at a low cap hit is also appealing.

Hall had 0 goals last year - 0. He is a fourth liner. Great on faceoffs though (something we lack).

Re-signing Jody Shelley would fix that problem.

That Zadorov kid can hit and he punishes people. I'd think he's a meaner version of Luke Schenn. You just signed Streit for four yrs, you have Ghostisbhere in the system and you can never turn your nose up at a player with a great point shot but is offense from the back end still a priority? It's not like Zadorov can't score. He's not Brad Marsh.

Best defense is an offense that never leaves the other teams zone.

EDIT
Especially when backchecking. Just take too long to get back to the o zone

I know I may be smoking crack, but if Timonen really wants to extend for one more year after next to try and win a cup, then why doesn't he just sign on for a Cap friendly extension and allow the Flyers to use the space to grab more talent?

So what team do you think he should sign with to get that Cup?

You're right. And I'd be happy if they brought him back, just not to "replace" Matt Read.

Was there a NMC/NTC in the new 1 year deal for Timonen?
