They need to get better/stronger down the middle. Colborne hasn't shown he can excel in the AHL yet ....let alone centre an NHL checking line.

I was being a little tongue n cheek but seriously I don't get why we don't aspire to something much better than Kadri-Grabo-Colborne centreing the top 3 lines.

as amazing as it to dream up trade scenarios all day.

I like to think Nonis knows what he is doing and if the right guy isn't out there for 1C maybe we stay the course this year, use it as another evaluation year for a lot of the young prospects we have, and wait it out.

Maybe grabo comes back to form. maybe kadri matures and shows he can be that guy, maybe he regresses.

(frank) i'm pumped for offseason. its good to be a leaf fan again

I dont think he looked that out of place in NHL IMO. The fact remains that there arent really many options to address that center depth.

1) Resign Bozak at way too much $$ and put him as 3C then.
2) Go with Kadri-Grabo-Colborne
3) Spend the Bozak and Macarthur money on Ribeiro and have him as your #1C. (My personal preference)

for some reason if he can be had for scrivens and frattin again, i think Nonis pulls the trigger. Plus i have a hunch that Tim Leiweke had some say into acquiring bernier as a 1-2 tandem sharing the duties if reimer falters. Going with two young goalies full of potential is a pretty good tactic over getting a guy like luongo who will take over reimers job completely along with tim thomas who can easily steal the job from reimer if he regained his form. Either way i like the idea of having a elliot/halak tandem scenario or the new one with tampa bishop/lindback

3) this came up a bit the other day, and I have to admit as much of a weasel as I think Ribeiro is, if we actually signed him I would be excited abotu the possibilites.

Not sure of his defensive abilities, but he would be the best center we've had in a while.

Also not sure if he'd be willing to sing a shorter term contract whcih would be nice.

Depends, stastny is the youngest option to upgrade at center. Weiss is 30, thorton is 34, marleau is 34, ribeiro is like 33-34, bozak is lame and wants too much money because he think hes sidney crosby, and yeah. Plus stastny had a good stint with team USA, thats one positive note to consider if we take him on in a trade with the avs... on another note, stastny is stastically one of the better faceoffs specialists, who i think is better at them than bozak anyways

If paying Ribeiro with Mac and Bozaks money works.

JVR-Ribeiro-Kessel
Lupul-Kadri-Frattin
Kulemin-Grabo-?/AHL/Briere?
Orr-Mcclement-Hamilton?

because he took more faceoffs than stastny this year, last year stastny was 55.4 percent winning, bozak the year before was 52.7... either way i think stastny is the better faceoff guy and better all around player for point production and better centerman suitable for kessel

maybe it should be if your 1st line is always spending the first part of it's shift battling for puck posession instead of expending it's energy on offense? just sayin....

Couple of things...

1) I think he was being sarcastic.
2) Taking more faceoffs doesn't magically increase your faceoff percentage. Shouldn't really drop it either.

Either way, both are really good faceoff specialists but stastny has the edge in point production and doing something productive
