- Am I the only one who went "who?" when the Flames fans went crazy yesterday over Corban Knight choosing them over the Oilers? You know times are tough when...

Dude, what? He got traded there, he didn't get to "choose" anyone

Worth mentioning Knight is getting same type of deal as yak, just one year less I think.

I think it depends on Strome. I don't think Nino makes the first line going into the season. I can see a swap being made once the season starts, but at the start of the season I would expect him to play on a third line. That third line might be very good though, with lots of young talent. If Strome makes the team and earns a first line spot, then I can see Nino playing on the third line for a while. He probably wouldn't be happy, but if the team is winning that's all that matters. It might be the third line but if there is young talent that is performing, I think he'll be ok.

I don't know the Oilers too well at all, but the isles need a top defenseman and goalie. That's most important, but they could also use a top RW to play with JT. That's why I'm not sure if a trade with the Oilers really makes sense at this point.

- NYI44

Ull get no help from the oil as far as goaltending or defence. We need defence at least as badly as you do.

As far as the rw, thats where hemsky comes in. I think in the right situation he still has the skills to put up 60+. He's all world skill wise, but is incredibly frustrating at times and has become redundant with ebs and yaks on the right side. Plus after years of losing, im sure a change of scenery would do him good.

Im not trying to pump his tires, i already know the perception of hemmer. Plus hes overpaid, even if only for 1 more year. And We're most likely going to lose any deal we make for him, at least talent wise anyway.
But again, a team that wants some star quality skill and can put him alongside the right guys could end up very happy

I'm just not sure if he's worth playing as opposed to playing a young guy. Lets face it, the isles aren't ready to win a cup yet. With a good goalie and defenseman as well as a good RW(trade/prospect) anything can happen. Also, hemsky scares me because of injury. I don't want a guy that going to play 60 games.

I highly doubt Knight gets anywhere near Yaks deal. Yak is getting a max ELC with Max bonuses. Same as Hall and Nuge and Schultz.

Those deals are usually reserved for top 5 first rounders. Knight is a 5th rounder and is getting 2 years due to his age. I bet it will be in the 1.5 range.

- Colorado isn't going to take a defenseman. No surprise there, although I'm a little confused by Joe Sakic went public with that thought. Considering the team's depth at center, I wonder if Jonathan Drouin is their guy?

They said they're "leaning towards one of the 3 forwards", which means absolutely nothing if you actually think about it.

- There's always one guy every draft class that falls way below their ranking for some reason. Cam Fowler, remember when that happened to him? I think Ryan Murphy was one of those guys, although I kinda see the point to that. He's brutal.

Ryan Murphy went right around where a lot of people thought he would. What's so brutal about him? What about his game do you not like specifically?

- Should be a really lame event, the compliance buyouts. We know Horcoff is gone. We know Daniel Briere and Ilya Brzgalov will be bought out. Maybe Montreal buys out Kaberle. Little junky moves like that. Ville Leino in Buffalo, or Mike Komisarek in Toronto. Guys you wouldn't want to sign anyway. Sad to say, but Horcoff will actually be one of the better players to go...Someone will offer him $2mil per as a UFA and he'll end up making a few bucks in the exchange.

Dany Heatley? Lecavlier possibly, althought highly unlikely?

- The fact there seems to be a bidding war starting for Jonathan Bernier makes me sad.

Why, because you know the Oilers won't even attempt to get him?

- The Conn Smythe winner has to be Tuukka Rask, doesn't it? That or Chara.

Krecji

- Why do I get the feeling Jay Feaster is going to do something incredibly stupid at the draft?

Because you think anything and everything Feaster does it stupid, so the only way for him not to do anything stupid in your eyes is to do nothing. Doing nothing is of course the stupidest thing of all, so really, the guy cant win no matter what.

- Why do I get the feeling Craig MacTavish is going to do next to nothing at the draft?

Because he probably wont

- If there is a big deal to be made at the draft involving the Oilers, my money is on the NY Islanders being the other team. Isles have too many quality young centers, and that Nino kid who wants out.

Snow said he won't deal him just because he wants out, meaning you better be prepared to pay full price. So basically, Nino will never be an Oiler.

His injury problems are the biggest issue. If he stayed healthy you guys would love him. I can see the Oilers trading him and he has a solid full year with them.

It was confirmed on twitter by someone decent. Can't remember who, but I'm not making it up.

I also believe Cervenka had a similar one.

I think it's just too big of a risk and I would rather young guys. Just wondering, who else would you want for hemsky instead of Nino.

I can see the Isles taking him off your hands for semi-cheap if they lose out on their other targets. If he could stay healthy he would flourish playing with JT, that's a big if though

Im not arguing the risk, thats why the Oilers wont get much for him. I wouldnt trade Nino for him either. I dont think there is a deal there for the two clubs.

Highly touted guy that doesn't see room in Florida so told them he wouldn't sign and would become UFA on August 15th. Florida got what they could.

Meh, if that's what it took to get him I don't see the harm. Even if he someone hits all the bonuses they have the cap space. The really money is still less than a mil, same as Cervenka.
