Interesting that the organization may be reshaping the d core to fit Lava's original vision. Coburn has very good mobility, but limited in his ability to generate offense with leading a rush and outlet passing. Mez is better in those areas as Streit should be also.

If I have to keep one of Mesz or Coburn, it's going to be Coburn. It will be curious to see how things work out this coming season. Definitely looking forward to it.

I don't wish injury on any player, but I'm always looking for someone to lay a clean, heavy hit or 3 on him when we play the Bruins. He's a solid player, and a pest, and I'll never like him.

I don't get how Rinaldo has such a rep in the league. Do you view him as a pest, or something more?

he just is what he is. i dont think he is nearly as dirty as marchand, so he doesnt inspire nearly as much anger from me.
in a way, i respect him because he manages to have virtually no skill but still be on an nhl roster purely through effort, total disregard for his own body, and determination. i just cant stand when people try to label him as anything more than what he is. hes an agitator who borderlines on dirty play (granted, i dont hold this against him too much, for the second he loses that aspect of his game, he is likely unemployed)

Fair assessment. He's a career 4th liner who throws his body around like a friggin bowling ball and makes any game he's in a bit more fun to watch. The funny thing is, since he's under such scrutiny, he plays a cleaner game than someone like B Schenn or James Neal. But, as you said, he's on a much shorter leash because he's fairly one dimensional.

a large part of it is just my ire with a lot of flyer fans (not saying you specifically of course). ive always been so annoyed with the glorification of plugs as more than what they are. at least the fascination with rinaldo isnt as bad as it was with carcillo. constantly having to hear about CARBOMB! made me want to lay down on 95.

Nice. To be fair, I do love big clean hits. But I think most hockey fans do. But Carbomb and Rino are easily replaced players. That doesn't mean, however, they aren't also heart and soul type players who lay it all out because they know anything less will get them cut from the team in a heartbeat. There's no taking a shift off for those guys, and that is definitely one of the things you have to respect about them.

Are you from Philly, or a transplant?

yup he was a flyers pick, got into some trouble while on the phantoms and got shipped out

IIRC, the coach was canned shortly after and there was specualtion that he was more the problem than Maroon....always felt he could do something in the NHL...we'll see.

The best guys of that ilk are those who can skate along that (border)line but not go over it...Rinaldo is pretty good at that...despite his "rep" with the refs, he is often able to goad a penalty out of the opposing player, despite being the original agitator. He's not totally without skills btw...he skates well, forechecks well and can surprise you now and then with a skilled shot or pass. The biggest thing though, I think is the energy guys like him bring...it's inspiring for teammates to see someone going out there, banging bodies and playing the game as hard and intense as Rinaldo. I believe Giroux has mentioned something of the sort about him.

i will give him credit, because for whatever reason, the opposition falls for it more times than not and gives in to him. why some players arent just smart enough to skate away, i dont know. if he is out there and can get a better player on the other side to waste time chasing him around, or even worse, march off to the box with him, then he has done his job. and i would never accuse him of not having energy. i watched a ton of flyers games this year, and there were moments that sometimes he seemed to be the only one interested in being out there, regardless of the score.

haha as far as his skill set goes, ill give you the first two, but im going to need some more convincing before i think he has some legitimate skill on the NHL level.

both plyrs have a lot to prove after just 48 gms of fairly good play. JVR was dynamite in the plyoffs and that is special and he's demonstrated that quality before. jury still out...
- isaiah520

JVR played well in the playoffs. My point was obviously that JVR is still prone to long scoring droughts. The jury isn't still out for me. Great trade for the Flyers.

tons of streaky scorers, i'd trade for like...i don't know...jeff carter?

good to see you make range of the moment judgements based biases you claim not to have. so by this logic, bob will be a perennial vezina contender- got it.

My reply had zero to do with Bobrovksy. That is simply your assumption. Nor did I say anything about trading for a streaky player such as Carter. Again, that is something that you've brought into this. All straw man arguments. And it's really irrelevant to the trade the Flyers made of JVR for Luke Schenn. Which I think was a great trade for the Flyers. I'd be happy to continue to debate that trade specifically with you.
