They have to move a defenseman. Getting Ryan for Coburn looks good to me. There's value in that trade.

Who do you replace coburn with?

So you're prepared to enter the season with Mez in the top 4? And an extremely bland pool of prospects?

85.

I can see them moving up to be honest. I know a lot of people have suggested trading down. That just seems like the least Flyers move you could make.

They still will have seven defenseman.

Kimmo-Schenn
Grossmann-Mez
Gus-Streit

No specific pairings. Just using the starting six.

I will stick with 80. I'd rather them move down a few slots since you will get a similar tier of defenseman even 6-7 picks later. If they move up they'd better be drafting one of those top four.

That's just one trade proposal. I don't know what else Holmgren has going on.

So you want to rely on the durability of that group?

Okay and if they trade Mez its going to look that much better? Your basically swapping Coburn with Mez.

At least your getting back value if you move Coburn. Mez isn't getting you any value imo.

Yeah. We have to rely on that group this year don't we?

Only guy not on that list is Coburn.

Cap relief offers a ton of value at this point. The value for Coburn is a good point, but do you really trust Mez to play a full season? And if he does, do you trust him to earn his salary? He looked unbelievably lost out there last year. Coburn is the guy - assuming he becomes the shutdown guy of the pair he's on - that will eat 23 minutes a night and skate better than anyone else back there.

I will keep Coby.

I would still try to move Mez and the 41st overall to Calgary for the 28th overall. The Flames have tons of cap room and only two D men signed.

It clears cap room for us and gets us another great prospect in the 1st.

Not against keeping Coburn. Just stating that the trade "rumor" isn't ridiculous. Its pretty fair value from both sides.

Coburn for Ryan, Read for Bernier, Coutrier for Yandle.

Everyone's happy, pissed off and mystified all at once...it's like going to Geno's for a cheesesteak at 3 am on a Saturday

I would prefer to have coburn here. He has been relatively healthy. I expect at lease two or you 6 to miss 40 games each and kimo will need nights off regardless of major injury.
Honestly, outside of dealing read, homer doesn't really have a position of strength to make a deal without compromising something else.
I guess he could deal one young center if he so chose.

Would love that. And Feaster is pretty stupid, but if I'm Calgary I'm using that to land me a reliable, defenseman with that pick if needed. They can do better than Mez.

Thought you meant big forwards. Sorry for my poor transition.

I'm kind of hoping they take 6 two-way centers in this draft.

That's assuming Calgary would give up a 1st for Mez. Don't know if they are interested in acquiring him.

It is, but if that happens I still shop Mez and replace Coburn elsewhere. Would hate to have to, but that'd be my armchair GM move.
