I dont think Gleason is one of the root causes of Carolina's struggles. I would take him too. I watched a little bit of Carolina early in the season and it seemed at the time like their forwards were a mess when they had to be defensively responsible, and were not terribly good at puck security.
- Doc_Sarcasm

yeah, forwards not being defensively responsible is a god damn killer. on one end of the spectrum are the flyers and pens, the other end, boston and LA. night and day, and the cup shows it

yup he was a flyers pick, got into some trouble while on the phantoms and got shipped out

He's 25 and has 3 pts in 15 NHL games. What makes them think he's replacing Ryan. That dude must be blogging from Syracuse. We used to have some Phantom centric posters on here when they were in town. He sounds a lot like them.

I like the connections game.

Claude Giroux, Wayne Simmonds, Luke Schenn and Steve Mason played together for the Canadian World Juniors in 2008.

Jake Voracek and Steve Mason were teammates for the Columbus Blue Jackets and entered their rookie seasons together in 2008 to 2011.

Brayden Schenn and Sean Couturier played together for the World Juniors Canadian 2010.

Luke Schenn and Brayden Schenn have been brothers since 1991.

Kimmo Timonen and Scott Hartnell were teammates for the Nashville Predators 2000-2008

Mark Streit and Bruno Gervais were teammates with the New York Islanders 2008-2011

Max Talbot and Bruno Gervais were teams in College Antonine-Girouard-QAAA 1999-2000

Simon Gagne and Brayden Coburn were teammates for the Philadelphia Flyers from 2007 to 2013. Coburn is the longest running Flyer without trade, Gagne is the longest all time current Flyer with a trade.

Claude Giroux and Simon Gagne were teammates from the Philadelphia Flyers 2007 to 2010 before Gagne was traded

I'm assuming Simon Gagne will be re-signed.

from D Dreger on the TSN page

Does Pavel Datsyuk's extension mean Valtteri Filppula is unaffordable for the Red Wings?

Dreger: It seems that way. He's a pending unrestricted free agent and word on the street suggests that Filppula wants as much as $5.5 million per year on a mega-deal. Outside the organization - seven years, inside - eight years. That's too much.

I mean that is Mark Streit money, guy is getting carried away.

I will be super upset if we sign Filppula. I'm originally from the Detroit area and I was working at an Audi dealership. Long story short, Valtteri Filppula and Patrick Eaves are regulars of getting their cars fixed. I simply never paid Filppula any attention simply because i'm a Flyers fan. He's pretty tall though.

That's just asking way too much. A second line player expects to get a massive contract with a huge cap-hit until he's 36-37? He is definitely overvaluing himself.

He's had 1 season numbers wise that would justify that. He won't get that at all.

Hybrid icing, mandatory visors, shallower nets and video review on four-minute highsticking penalties will all be introduced next season, pending approval from the NHL's board of governors.

Making the net 4 inches shallower will make Briere's office bigger next season.
He will score 30 for another team with the Flyers paying most of his salary.

Forget the video review, the extra two minutes for bleeding should be abolished. This rule is inexplicably stupid.

With your plan, after the Kimmo retires and the cap goes up after next season we would have like 16-17mil extra cap space next offseason after only losing one roster player

SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $62,374,594; BONUSES: $2,800,000
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $4,725,406

I realize the biggest knock on this is we did is get older on defense, and we may be thinner. But I'm a big fan of Scuderi and wouldn't blink to sign him for 3 years. But I believe this is all worth it in order to acquire Nichushkin and Bernier. I also prefer B Schenn to move to the wing.

- Just5

Solid roster, I like it. I'd prefer Coburn to Scuderi, but if they can make that trade for #5 I'd do it in a heartbeat. The thing is I think Carolina laughs at that deal.

I don't know about laugh. You'd have to argue if they would rather add multiple good assets in our trade for only their pick or give their pick plus good assets in order to get a Letang-type. It's not a bad trade
