make sure "buried contracts" isnt checked off, and x Pronger out
or "trade" him

- FLYERSROCK!

thanks got it!

so realistically, what would it take for us to land Jones in the draft?
11th + Coots or Laughton?

I'd be very hesitant too, but Jones seems to have it all -- including hockey sense.

Still wouldn't fault a team for taking MacKinnon, but I would take Jones first or 2nd (and I LOATHE taking defensemen in Round 1).

- bradleyc4

This isn't the first year we've head the "best complete d prospect since Chris Pronger" adage being used... I think Jones has as good a chance of meeting that expectation as anyone since EJ...

But the rate of return on taking dmen that were ranked #1 at any point leading up to draft day is just alarmingly bad... MacKinnon is so much of a safer pick that it's not even funny. For a new regime taking it's first step, I'd be really afraid to roll the dice with a safe picks like Mac and Barkov sitting there.

Way more than it'd be worth...I;d guess Couturier, the 11th pick and possibly another player.

They could get Skinner+ for him, I bet.
- bradleyc4

Skinner and the 5th overall, maybe another pick or prospect. That's kind of what I was thinking.

I agree.

Projecting 18-year-old defensemen and goalies is near impossible. But someone in the top-3 is drooling over what could be with Jones. And there's plenty of gamblers among NHL execs.

Be sure that Ray "The Best Damn General Manager of all Time" Shero will get a Letang deal done!
- dingo8urbaby

haha mock all you want. Shero is a brilliant GM. im far from a holmgren basher, but i would take him over homer every day of the week.

However, even the best GMs still have to play within the rules of the cap, and unless he is a total jedi or something, i dont see him convincing letang to agree to terms that can work for the team

Just think, 10 years ago it only took Ruslan Fedetanko to get the 4th overall pick from the Tampa Bay Lightning in a none cap NHL world.

If COL is serious about not trading down and taking a forward... the Flyers would actually have a chance at Jones. FLA, as a franchise, has never been shy about trading down, and they need all kinds of immediate help up front. Flyers would have to move into the top-4 or 5 first to make anything happen, though.

Like Jsaq said, it would take a boatload of assets to move up like that... not to mention the added pressure it would put on the already ridiculous expectations that people have for Jones to begin with.

Who are you taking with the fifth overall you're getting for Letang?
- mayorofangrytown

at the risk of sounding uninformed, i believe that is carolina's pick right? honestly, they wouldnt be my choice to try to work out a deal with. the 5th pick on its own isnt enough for me, and i think it would be difficult to hammer out other pieces to make it work.

Not to start a Pens/Flyers war or anything but as a true blue Flyers fan, I hate the Pens and give them very little credit. I think the Pens are quickly becoming the most overrated team in the NHL due to the way they've exit the playoffs since there last 2009 Stanley Cup win. It doesn't take a great GM to draft such players as Crosby, Malkin, J.Staal and Fleury. The Pens just were lucky to be a bottom feeding team at the right time. I'm not at all a Letang supporter but he's the only find the Pens had to go out of there way to look for.

Ryan, a Cherry Hill, NJ native is a huge fan favorite in Anaheim, but becomes expendable with all the money thrown at Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry. In addition the emergence of younger players like Pat Maroon and Emerson Etem have made the possibility of this trade all the more feasible.

The only thing that works against Joni Pitkanen is his attitude. I don't think he's a great player but make him a better teammate and I'd would rather have him right now then Mark Streit.

Imagine if COL pulled a Brian Burke and acquired the #2 pick from Florida, and selected both MacKinnon and Drouin?

The silly season lives on.

I realize the biggest knock on this is we did is get older on defense, and we may be thinner. But I'm a big fan of Scuderi and wouldn't blink to sign him for 3 years. But I believe this is all worth it in order to acquire Nichushkin and Bernier. I also prefer B Schenn to move to the wing.

im not trying to start any sort of war either. and you can hate someone or a team and still have enough common sense to understand positive things about them. i loathe the flyers, but they have plenty of players that i respect the hell out of.

and for the record, when i pump shero's tires, drafting isnt even in the discussion for me. if anything, his drafting record is probably only average or slightly below so far in his career. however, his body of work in other areas speaks for itself.

FLA needs a top-line center... Avs have centers to trade... it's probably not as far-fetched of a scenario as most of the stuff that's posted on here.
