Like this guy?

Bare midriff, makeup/mask and lady gloves ftw.

(and raise your hand if you knew that was a hood and not his hair)

- Tomahawk

Well, it was the 80s when nothing was a sure thing.

(Didn't watch GI Joe... thought it was his hair.)

His production/$ value is definitely the most alluring thing about him as a trade target.
- Tomahawk

And it's also alluring to keep him for that very reason.

With your beautiful and growing family I'd think there'd be more rainbows, sunshine and flowers coming from your direction but, man, you're the voice of doom these days.

Just as there is no shortage of NHL Goaltenders who were thought to be the next best thing, that never got there. Read is legit. I don't know that Bernier is. And I don't see how any other fan knows that he is either.

I'm not gonna make the mistake of thinking either guy is legit, at least not yet.

I'm perfectly fine with Schenn being the second line Center and Couturier centering the third line.

I should be GM.

As a GM, what are you going to do if Grossmann and Meszaros continue to have health issues?

My favorite part is him licking his lips or whatever he's doing with his mouth in this pick, truly makes it...

I'm kind of upset Gostisbere is returning to College. I want to see what he has in the Pros.

Granted.

How about their 2013 #2 and 2014 #2, then?

- GeorgeBailey

Its an interesting scenario, but there is too much of a "what if" factor for me. What IF Jones turns in to Erik Johnson. What IF he takes 2-3 years to really have an NHL impact?

If Im trading Couts, Coburn and our first... I want a top NHL talent.

Nail meet head.

Read could be Patrick Sharp, or he could go on to be Chris Higgins/Matt Stajan/Mason Raymond. It seems a lot of us are talking like you can bank on him being a 40-50pt/20-25G for the foreseeable future, based on solely on 1.5 seasons of pro, during which he's squarely in the most productive age-window for most forwards.

Bernier's a risk, Read's a risk... if there's a trade there, the team who gets the best player usually wins... Bernier's expansive upside swings the arrow in his favor.

I didn't even know who Matt Read was until we signed him just over 2 years ago and sent him to the Phantoms. He's had his struggles being drafted and ever playing in the NHL. There may or may not be a reason behind this. Right now he's a very good play but he's only been in a league for 1 and half seasons.

I think there's a decent chance that Bernier will be the next Rask, so I'm OK with trading Read for him.

That's not a hood. Maybe that's what they intended when they took ink to paper, but that's definitely hair.

Man, I miss the 80s. Forget that I barely experienced them.

We've seen Read play for a Season and a half. So we have a much better prospective on him as a player. I don't see Read as a risk. I've seen enough to know what kind of player he is. I haven't seen enough of Bernier to make a determination either. And neither have you. None of us have. He very well could be the next top young Goalie in the League. And if the Flyers feel that way, they should make the deal. Or he could be another flop. Bernier is a much bigger risk then Read is. Read is very little risk. But Bernier could be a bigger reward. I'll leave that decision to the Pros.

Fair enough...but:

What IF, Coots is Michel Handzus? What IF 12-13 is what you get from Coburn from here on out? What IF #11 turns out to be a big nothing?

Those questions go both ways. If everything break right, then maybe the Flyers can seriously contend next season, but, perhaps, 14-15 and beyond is more realistic.

Well... even if that were the case (that a worse case scenario, and I dont think it is even remotely likely)... We would be giving up 2 current NHL talents (one with huge possible upside, one a top 4 d-man) AND the 11th pick in the draft for a guy who has never even skated a lap on NHL ice.

I wouldnt say that is a struggle. He made his name in college and had a hell of a lot of teams pushing hard to get him.

We would also be freeing up $4M in cap space that would be used to replace forward spot vacated by Coots. In my example, it would effectively be Coots, Coburn and 2013 #11 for Jones, Zubrus and 2013 and 2014 #2

I would. If a player isn't drafted, they have to work even harder to get a job in the NHL and still there is no guarantees that way. He's very fortunate because he could have found a home in the AHL and never moved up at all. He's about 28, so I'm sure it took along time to put himself on the radar.

Barring any upcoming trades, I think Streit and Coburn would make sense together.
