pens have more problems/decisions with the defensemen than anything else. who stays in WB/S? who gets a chance in the NHL? Who leaves to make room?

Wilkes Barre playoff d-men that could potentially get a chance in the fall:
maata, pouliot, harrington, despres, samuelsson, dumoulin

who goes?
orpik, niskanen, letang, martin

Letang and Kennedy for Gibson and Ryan? Ducks don't necessarily anymore goaltending
- drummer829

unfortunately, they don't need more goaltending because of gibson... hillier and fasth are getting a little up there in age (early 30's I think) plus hiller has questionable health and fasth only have a shortened season. I would have liked either one if we moved fleury. also, ryan would fetch the same amount of return as letang... nice contract, top line, young winger. Anahiem would rightly laugh shero out of the room... Letang-Bennett for Gibson/ryan would be more appropriate... then the pens move fluery if they can for an asset and it all works out!

If by chance you mean with pens than suppossedly Doumalin is the only one who might make the team in the beginning... trib's yohe or one of those bozos reported that. made me sad... midway through ahl season the coaches in WBS were gushing about samuelson... tough, rough d-man, good +/- where did he go? not sure if maata/pouliot have to play majors or junior next year?

Yea, I knew it was a little low from the pens, but a type a deal around these players could work.

I'd miss cooke, but he is expendable. If Dupius walks I would like to see him back, but Penalty Killers can be trained and I wouldn't miss moments like the mcquiad call. Pens are going to lose s a few players and 2 mil for sooke for three years is a bit much. Pens going to have to sign at least one top 6 guy (assuming dupius stays, and either bennett/jokinen make the top 6). My thoughts on getting salary shed are moving nisk, not resigning cooke, moving orpik
- ChrisMS

So, move your only physical presence on defense and not resign arguably your best penalty killer and solid third line player. Again, thank God you aren't the Pens' GM.

Maatta and Pouliot are too young to play in the AHL next season, right?

Maatta and Pouliot are only 18 and 19 respectively. If they don't make the team (they won't), they'll be back with their junior teams. Dumoulin is the most likely to make the jump to the NHL from the baby pens, apparently.

IIRC The only ones jumping from juniors to Wilkes-Barre of note are Harrington and Zlobin.

And yes, I think Cooke is worth it for 2 years at ~2M. He may get some calls against him but he is an effective player when he's out there, and although its a bit hand-wave-y the penalties that Cooke takes are the sort that the team finds a way to kill off.

Cap wise it would be great if one of the kids could step up his game and play with the big club. Blysma however would not be for it at all. Their development is key to keeping the core of the team and still being able to have decent 3rd and 4th lines.

Quite frankly its a crock of you know what that these players arent allowed to play in a better league. The CHL/NHL agreement is one of the biggest farces out there.

I think everyone here wants to see the same thing
Martin - Orpik
Letang (at =<6.5M) - Despres
Murray - WBS player (Dumoulin/Harrington)
Eaton/Engelland

Or some permutation of that. Niskanen is a negative factor out there most of the time and his salary makes room for Murray to stay. Maybe we can even finagle a project of a forward prospect from someone like Edmonton who need NHL defenseman.

There isn't a too young limit in the AHL. Makes no sense. Crosby played in the NHL age wise before these guys would have played an AHL game.

You have to be 20 years old by December 31st of that season to be eligible for the AHL, or have already played in 4 junior seasons.

This absurd rule screwed over Grigorenko this year, as he was way too good for juniors but not quite ready for prime time.

Just another one of HNIC's great opening videos. For Game #3 featuring the great Neil Young's "Hey Hey, My MY".

Tim Thompson at CBC is amazing editing these things... Some of the images corresponding with the lyrics, and even using Neil Young's dad in this.

Amazing...

- rival22

This is awesome on many levels. The song and video are terrific. The juxtaposition of Neil and his dad is super. It's too bad the Canadian media gets it when it comes to being creative with hockey and music and the states media just blows, period. Thanks for this I am forwarding it to my brothers who also are huge Neil Young fans, thank you.

Cooke can stay or go. In some ways I have had enough of him and his antics.

i hate hartnell, but respect the hell out of him as a player. however, theres no way id do that one. i wouldnt want to give letang to the flyers, and hartnell's age is a big concern
- stayinthefnnet

I respect Hartnell. He is the worst athlete ever to put on skates, but managed to bag 30 goals, an all star appearance, and Sheena.

Obviously the CHL has to protect its talent or else they won't get the same revenue. Surely reducing each figure by a year is doable though. That way they still get their rookie, breakout and a dominant years and players like Grigs don't waste time with which they could be learning defensive systems and playing against men.

I wonder how much the additional turnover would change the quality of the CHL though... It could also change the AHL too, if half the teams had an extra game-breaker.

If the CHL was so worried about the amount of talent in their league perhaps they shouldnt be blocking talented European goalies from entering their league. They are hypocrites.

There's some movement to promote the development of Canadian goalies or something.
