Not a chance in Hell this would even be discussed by the GMs, but:
What would you guys think of Hartnell for Letang? Yes, Letang's the better player. But Hartnell's signed for 5 more years, and would instantly go from super villian to super hero in Pittsburgh (and vice versa in Philly). Plus you get a top-6 winger to play with the super centers (it's a very "super" deal) who can do a bit of everything. He's like James Neal with a physical game. Just wondering. - jmatchett383
Philly would have to add something to that deal. Probably a pick and a prospect. Wouldn't happen though. |

You know how they say when you're trying to answer a question on a test that your first choice is the best choice.
I would stick with that premise..... |

Would I want Hartnell on the Pens? Yes, very much so.
But I wouldn't trade Letang for him. |

@emptynetters - Boston media part 1: "Crosby's whining about a hit from two weeks ago." Boston media part 2: "Matt Cooke hit Marc Savard three years ago!!!"
- cap1681
Cooke hit ended Savard's career, Chara "hit" on Crosby was a love tap. emptynetters needs to try again. |

I think Hartnell has only one season where he was able to control himself and play smart hockey. I'm pretty sure he was back to being an idiot at the wrong times last year. Yeah.......we certainly need more of that! |

That's tough. I'd take Hartnell on my team in a minute but I'd be sick seeing Letang in that ugly jersey. |

Can't control taking stupid penalties and we need a defenseman back in return for Letang. If you are trading away someone of his ilk, you need to get a high draft pick to select a young and talented forward AND an NHL ready Dman. Hartnell doesn't fit either criteria. We already have two that take stupid penalties (hello Geno and Neal) - we don't need another.
Do you honestly think Shero would deal Letang to Philly? I don't. If he did, Shero would have to win the deal hands down. A swap like this isn't winning a deal. |

I hate Hartnell but Letang for him would be absurd.... It's hard to find equal value.... but I would start with Kunitz |

Hartnell's been on three of our most proficient scoring lines since his arrival: first, with Carter and Lupul, then with Briere and Leino, and most recently with Giroux and Jagr. He wasn't there by mistake.
Of course, I won't deny he does some pretty dumb things. But the guy's not some invalid who got lucky for one season. |

I respect you MadCap, but Savard did come back to play. He came back way earlier than he should. Who knows what would have happened if Savard would have waited a year or longer.
The Chara punch was not a love tap. Especially to a guy with a very recent broken jaw and a history of concussion as well. |

Why do we need an NHL ready defenseman back? Despres is ready for full time minutes and take a look at WB it's loaded with top end D talent. And how does the draft pick help us now? I'd prefer to just trade him for a young talented forward already in the league. You're honestly saying Hartnell has no place on this team? I'm not saying I'd trade Hartnell for Letang strait up but he could def be a big part of the package. |

Not saying that. Just saying he controlled himself last season, this season.....same as it ever was. We've already got a couple of players that lose their minds at the most inopportune moments. |

He's gone back and forth through his tenure here. When things are going well, he plays really damn good hockey. When things are not going well, he's one of the first victims of frustration. Lots of the latter last season, but he was also slowed by an early return from a foot injury. |

sounds like way to much but might be in the ball park if Letang was signed long term. Maybe not a 2 1sts. Doubt Philly would go for that |

It was clearly hypothetical. The Hamuis deal was about as big as you'll get from these rivalries |

Well that's the point. If you ever thought about a trade with Philly, it needs to be a kings ransom, anything less isn't worth playing against letang 6 times a year plus playoffs |

I fully believe they need to get a good D back in any trade. Letang plays 27+ a game, I don't see how you can say Despres or any of the other young players are ready to step in and take that role. Thanks to Bylsma, who knows where Despres stands in his development.
As for Hartnell, I want no part of a guy who description includes the words "dumb penalty". |
