I think you throw something at Minny to see if you can get the rights to Clutterbuck. If it doesn't stick, you focus on Cooke. Clutterbuck has the potential to be your next Kunitz.
- cap1681

That's a decent thought but given that Clutterbuck is an RFA, they are going to want something substantial I would think. Other than that, I would like Cooke back but only for 2 years max with him being 34.

Ryan Wilson: Is Matt Cooke Worth the Trouble?
Will the Penguins extend free agent to be Matt Cooke?

- Ryan_Wilson

Absolutely. You have to re-sign Cookie.

I don't know why so many people are reticent to give Cooke an extra-year and yet give it to Dupuis. IMO both players are very important to our success.

Cooke (3rd line, 2nd line occasionally, PKer)
Dupuis (1st line, 3rd line occasionally, PKer)

LOVE THEM BOTH!GET IT DONE!

Again we'll see Lemieux talk out of both ends of his mouth, WHINING about getting the dirty stuff out of the game than turn around and resign Cooke.

The Wild are pretty tight against the cap, and still need a starting goalie. A mid level prospect and a 3 round pick (of which the Pens have 2) could get it done. Then they are getting a player and a pick, compared to just a pick if he signs a offer sheet.

I think Clutterbuck is a huge fan favorite. They're not moving him.

I'm 50/50 on Cooke. Very good PK'r, but he never gets the benefit of the doubt....and, deservedly so. I won't go over the top in praising his performance this year. He had some good shifts in the playoffs, but just 4 points. It's not like he was ever a difference maker.

I think 3 years is out of the question for Shero. I think Jussi makes him expendable.

C'mon, the Flyers would never sign Cooke.....they don't want a "dirty" player on their team, they have morals.

(wish there was a sarcastic font)

Funny enough - our dirtiest (or maybe dumbest) players are Briere and Harts - both on the top two lines.

I don't think Feds, Gagne, Talbot, or Coots are considered dirty.

Zac Rinaldo may be a mini-Cooke with his reformation occuring earlier in his career.

Overall Cooke is fine at the right price but really not worth the conversation. So much of the Cup chances rely on their elite forwards, their not as elite D, and their questions in goal.

Wear a Cooke jersey and walk around randomly screaming at little kids.

One of my tweets during a philly pittsburgh game stated the following: How is a 4th line plug capable of taking an entire team off of their game to run around and chase him. Pretty much sums up Rinaldo. Aside from the stupid penalties he is very good at what he does. And no I don't consider any of the above mentioned as dirty players. Cross Checks and physical play are part of the game.

Interesting tidbit:

Depaoli from TIOPS says that the market value for Dupuis is 4 years, 18-22 mil

You must totally forget the 70s, 80s, 90s and early 00s then.

Just read that article. If he can get 5 mil a year from another team, God bless him. I'd be stunned if Shero gave him that contract.

I have confidence that we will get a deal done with both.
What is troubling to me is that there is no glaring hole in this team that can be fixed by bringing in a free agent, besides behind the bench. Keep in mind we have no forward depth in the minors.

Bennett Crosby Duper
Kuni Geno Neal
Cooke Sutter ???
???-Jussi-???
Garbage pile Kennedy(sadly 2m is just too much) GlASS, Vitale, Adams, Engo, Eaton, Iggy, Morrow, Murray, Nisky, and Jeffery.

Vitale is still signed with this team. He is a good 4th liner. Adams will be back, at about the same he was last season. I think Jussi plays on the third line with Cooke and Sutter, and your 4th line is Vitale, Adams, and (fill in the blank).

I always laugh when a Flyers' fan complains or WHINES about anything to do with "dirty hockey"
- cap1681

While I'll give you that, he did have a point. A minor, mostly misinformed point, but a point. I hate the "Oh, a FLYERS fan..." reply instead of addressing the issue that was raised. It's as bad as a Flyers fan blindly saying, "Oh, the team that has Matt Cooke wants to talk about a dirty player." See, it doesn't really address anything except that both teams have dirty players.

Mario's words came at a bad time, right before Cooke's hit (on Tyutin, I think?). Lemieux has since backed it up with his fine proposal, but no one remembers that.

@Hallsy04 - I disagree “@FriedgeHNIC: Healy says Chara needed stitches in back of head after pre-game collision with Lucic. Most dangerous warmup ever.”

Vitale really has fallen far from when he made the team 2 years ago I would really rather see anyone play in his roster spot, someone that actually knows his role on the team.
Jussi really doesn't fit that 3rd line checker role.
Adams? you really think Adams has anything left? Im not sure if he does.

Don't go above $3-3.5M, ever.

Wow...

Time to look for other options out there:

I heard an interview with Duper himself on the Vinny and Cook Show today when Duper said straight out that he has taken a hometown discount before and he hopes they can get something similar done this time. " I love it here"
Duper is staying.
