Lol....
Honestly, what a pointless and arbitrarily voted award. - rival22
Should be awarded post playoffs (if at all) since a substantial amount of a GM's work can't be judged until the cup is won. |

Emerson is good friends with Beau. Young and has a low cap hit. Would be a nice addition if we could get him.
Too bad we lost Joe Morrow

FYI........
@coryworon - Pens GM ray Shero is having breakfast this AM with Kris Letang's agent Kent Hughes prior to the GM's meeting in Boston
@coryworon - Ray Shero's meeting with Letang agent Kent Hughes was interrupted by brief one-on-one with Preds GM David Poile. Back meeting with Hughes. |

Orpik is a keeper. He brings a lot of things to the team that goes unnoticed. I cousld see him getting a discount to remain with us - Orpik44
But he's loosing a step . I heart orpik too. But if we could fine a younger replacement I'd do it

Yeah, and even then it's impossible to quantify how good of a job a GM did in a one year snapshot.
I mean look at Chicago and Boston. Besides getting Jagr, neither team really made any significant roster moves in the past year. And Jagr has zero goals in the playoffs).
Chiarelli and Tallon did great work in the years leading up to this season by putting together their teams, and making the right decisions on contracts. |

Going to be an interesting 10 days around here. I think Letang is all but gone. Don't want it to happen, but I think Ray will bring back a nice return. |

We already have the young replacements. Orpik did very well paired with Martin. We can't just break up our best d line. I can see him having at least 3 more good years. |

If he leaves, I'd love to see him in Edmonton or Anaheim, two clubs I like. Off course the return would have to be good |

We're not giving up Orpik and Letang in the same off season. It's just not happening...
It will leave us with one legit, proven top 4 defensemen. Even if you get a top 4 d-man back for Letang, you still have a huge hole of tough minutes to fill. |

well dupes is as good as gone... shouldn't have taken more then one day to make his deal... he will get 4-5 mil by a team like philly... - nh4442
They're waiting to see if anything can be done with Letang before they negotiate with Duper.
If I didn't know better I would guess you sound a little worried that he might leave... |

Excelent options.
Some guy wrote this on the TribLive article about Letang and I found it interesting:
1. Dan Hamhuis would only agree to be a Penguin if he could sign the contract after free agency opened. He called to agree to the contract but Shero said no. He said this in an interview in Vancouver after he signed there. Shero made an arbitrary deadline which he should have known wasn't going to work given this particular player and lost the player because he was too stubborn to change it. Hopefully Shero learned from that failure. 2. I'd prefer that Letang isn't traded but if he is I hope Shero gets a young winger. How about trading with Anaheim for Emerson Etem (21) - big right winger with finish, John Gibson, top goalie prospect, 1st round pick etc? Bennett - Crosby - Etem would be fun. - Orpik44
Interesting insight on the Hamhuis thing. I don't see it as a negative at all with Shero setting the arbitrary deadline. If Hamhuis wanted the deal, then take the deal... if you want to field other offers, than field other offers... Shero had other options (Michalek and Martin), you can't expect a GM to sit around waiting for a player to make a decision and miss out on other options if he doesn't sign.

Letang for etem and Gibson and a 2nd or 3rd would work for me.. even if we had to give a pick up as well...
then trade flower to edm or cal for their 1st and a player or prospect... go after drouin if still avail with cal pick or that Russian winger who is said to be the best in the draft with edm pick...
you then bring up despres to replace letang, Gibson is in as backup for vokun with hartzell in wb/s getting ice time and you have two young wingers in the system with etem and who ever you draft...
seems reasonable... but I dunno if ana will give up two prospects in etem and Gibson... |

I think there was never any chance Hamhuis was going to sign with a team other than the Canucks, personally.
Emphasis on never. |

haha I do like dupes as a player and his cap hit for what he does.. I don't like that they stick with him in top 6 when there are other options out there where I think might be better... if he wants more than 2.5 from us, I will gladly walk away... Bennett is a great shot blocker and can easily step into dupes role in top 6 as well as pk and is already an nice righty shot on the pp.... |

Given the monster extensions of Getzlaf and Perry I highly doubt the Ducks would want to trade away entry level contract players like Etem to acquire another player who wants a monster deal. |

Exactly. Plus he'd have to go into a bidding war with other clubs. God knows if Hamhuis would be good for us. |

No, no it doesn't.
Edmonton nor Calgary will be trading a top 10 pick for Fleury alone and Drouin will in no way be out of the top 5.
On top of that you're right, I highly doubt Anaheim ships out 2 ELC's when they just dumped a poopload of money into Getzlaf and Perry. |

The only thing that the Pens had going for them was that Shero worked with Hamhuis in Nashville, so we (and likely Shero) was banking on that history a bit. |

Anaheim would basically do what we are willing to do, money wise. Keep two allstar forwards and an allstar defenseman. I can see him going there. If they want to unload Ryan to us, awesome. |

depends on what team.. look at edm with great offense, slightly improving D but horrible goalies... you think they wont jump on fleury for their 1st... I think they would...
they would be stupid not too... he would at least get them into the playoffs... |

He could have signed in Pittsburgh. He said that in an interview. He never wanted the Flyers, ever. I know, it's a joke to stir things up |
