I don't think Liles, Grabo or Komi earned their salaries this year.

Komi did...hes great in the dressing room. Washes all the towels, cleans the toilets.

If I could swap Grabovski with clarkson and pay clarkson 5.5 instead...I guess I would do that. Its possible I guess with a buyout, its just money after all, and not my money.
- senstroll

they can afford both....

i bet clarkson signs 5 years at somewhere around 5.75million.. he wont get six.. but he'll get upper five
- Dozzer

I know the general consensus is that Clarkson will get, at minimum, 5 million for at least 4 years (maybe 5), but I am curious to know where this money will come from.

I'm not disputing the number, but does anybody have a list of teams in mind that would give him $25+ million over 5 years?

I wouldn't be surprised if New Jersey traded down. They have to forfeit next years pick and I'm sure someone who's drafting 20+ would consider trading this years 1st and next years to move up to 9. The year they selected Brodeur they traded down, maybe they do the same with Fucale.

the statment was "even if he has a normal season" he not worth his salary.

For Liles...if he has 40 points..which is around "normal" for him then yes he is worth 3.8 defiantly...since his concussion, hes not the same.

Komisarek..well hes not a leaf anymore, so not much to say about him.

I really don't buy that. Most of the big spenders have their hands tied with a falling cap.

The wild card is how many compliance buyouts there will be to drive up supply (and drive down the price).

I'm not saying he's toast... but 5.5 milly is a lot of money. And even if he returns to form, I don't see that being on the first line.
- dragus84

top tier players: 6million plus

high level tier guys: 4-6mill

mid tier guys: 2-4mill

grinders and checkers: base to 2mill

honestly.. as a reasonable to assume 50 point guy.. grabo is right where he should be

No, and I really dont think he actually gets it. People typically over project salaries with guys like this. I say 4-5 years with a cap hit of closer to 4.5M

Buffalo times 5. Unless you convince NYI that he's on waivers, then they will pay 7mil.

phillys hands are tied yet they signed streit..... teams find ways...and any gm not interested in clarkson should be fired.

What about the 300 guys playing for the minimum, where or what are they considered on your scale?

And any GM that gives Clarkson 5+ for 5 years will likely be fired before the end of that contract.

Like I said, depending on buyouts, some free agents might find the market is a lot softer than they expected. These guys signing extensions early are smart.

I dunno... i think 5.5 is a bit high for a 50 point guy.

not saying its the worst contract in the history of sports.

When this all started my point was that because he was a pending UFA he got overpaid. Not that he's garbage, or doesn't deserve maybe 4.5. But 5.5 is a bit much and not because of last season because I thought so at the time it was signed.

I can't wait to see the ticket prices on those packages.

Yeah, I said packages.

On the plus side, it's going to be fun to get 100 emails a day for six weeks from friends, asking if I want to buy tickets for Latvia vs. Cameroon.

Below face value!

How about $100 for the pair?

How about $50 for the pair?

Please?

Pretty please?

Logic would dictate that when comparing existing contracts to ones about to be signed, the fact that the cap is going down should factor into it, i.e., player X got $4 million a year, and I'm just as good as player X, but cap has gone down, so I should get $3.85 million.

At least that's how it should work.

In theory, anyways.

I was also saying or implying, in the league, there are a lot of players not earning their monies.

I seem to recall the market being softer than usual after the last lock-out. Lindros, for all his baggage, would never have signed for the 2 million or whatever we got him for.

EDIT: 1.5 million.
