I'm not being flippant here: NHL players have a very small window of opportunity to earn money before their careers end. And their careers can end with a single bodycheck or slapshot.

It's easy as a fan to criticize a guy for going after the biggest paycheque.

But I can't say I blame the guy.

Having said all that, I don't think the Leafs should re-sign him.

I agree with what you're saying but sometimes taking the biggest offer isn't the best move for a player's career. If he can't play up to the team's expectations then he just becomes the butt of the fan base's jokes, especially on Hockeybuzz. See Komisarek, Mike.

Oh, he'll be wealthier, but statistically he's going to go down the tubes, be dogged by whichever team he signs with fan's screaming for him to be bought out...hey, if that's your thing, go for it, but I'd rather enjoy what I'm doing for a living, day in and day out.

Would have agreed if he didn't score 15 in this shortened season. Kulemin has been at 7 for a couple of seasons now.

And I'm with you on the defense thinking we need at least 3. But I still feel a quality top 6 who can play a physical game is most missed in this lineup.

So does anyone get the feeling franson won't be resigned? Josi signed for 4 million, now Voynov signs for basically 4.2 million. Franson put up better numbers then them in the regular season and had 6 points in 7 games in the playoffs. Do we hold out for someone to send him an offer sheet of 4 million and just part ways? Do we trade him to an interested team for a prospect who could step in now? I just can't see Nonis offering Franson 4 mil+ especially since he won't budge on the Bozak negotiations.
