I can't wait to see the ticket prices on those packages.
Yeah, I said packages.
On the plus side, it's going to be fun to get 100 emails a day for six weeks from friends, asking if I want to buy tickets for Latvia vs. Cameroon.
Below face value!
How about $100 for the pair?
How about $50 for the pair?
Please?
Pretty please? - Atomic Wedgie

Even if he had a normal season he just doesnt live up to a 5.5 contract.. if he signed a deal for 4 or 4.5 I dont think people really care too much what he does - senstroll
cap hit comparables: ( i am removing guys who signed RFA or will be expecting a huge raise in a year or less
horcoff (40 - 60 point guy), st louis (could of got more), doan (40-60 point guy), hossa (60-70 point guy, could get more as well), skinner (40-60 point guy), carter (40-70 point guy), benn (50-70 point guy), Kane E. (40-60 point guy)
anyways, its all pretty much like that with a couple exceptions (like kessel and tavares who will get big raises on their first UFA contact and someone like stamkos who signed for cheaper than he could of got to stay put)
grabo may not be the top tier of his pay scale, but he's comfortably within it.

it might be a shade high, but certainly not an albatross. - Barx
yeah exactly.. he is in the bottom end of his pay bracket.. but he isnt out of place by any means.. good timing hitting UFA when he did.. no other centres out there.
I seem to recall the market being softer than usual after the last lock-out. Lindros, for all his baggage, would never have signed for the 2 million or whatever we got him for.
EDIT: 1.5 million. - Leeman4Gilmour
firstly, lindros was a mere shadow of his former self.....and secondly, he wanted to be a leaf since he was two weeks old.

The little guy wins. Love it. I really am glad you are not our GM, I feel you would over pay all of our players. Not a knock against you, you just seem to be more giving with the money than I.
we need more nastiness in the top six not to mention Ryan would cost us a fortune in picks/prospects.....I'd take a run at Clarkson first.
Clowe if he can be had at a reasonable price, he played the season injured but should bounce back.

Yes, as we found out after we signed him. But go look at his point totals and his name recognition (and the fact he was only 32 and had amassed those totals in the dead puck era) and ask yourself if you ever thought he'd go for 1.5 million at any point in his career.
A player like 2003 Eric Lindros would get over 5 million today. Even adjusting for the lower cap back then, we got him on the cheap.
Leaf fan or not, if he could have gotten 3 or 4 million elsewhere, he'd have taken it. For what it's worth, I've heard a ton of this hometown discount stuff about Clarkson, too.

he's getting paid at the top of the bracket, and probably more of the lower end of the bracket talent wise.
again, not saying he's junk... just overpaid, and not really complaining about it either, just saying that's the reality of UFA's

well.. it works this way
grabo: i want 5+
burke: i'll give ya 3
grabo: guess i wont be playing here next year
burke: why not?
grabo: cause there are no other centres that will be UFA this year. so someone will give me 5.. hell.. my agent says there will be at least 5 teams offering that much
burke: you got me over a barrel here grabo
grabo: i know, but thats how it works
so bix, its eaither pay up or lose the asset. welcome to modern sports.

Lindros took the hometown discount and freely admitted it....not many do it anymore, and I'm sure Clarkson won't either.
