i honestly think the cheapest safe bet would be Hainsey... I think he would do a nice job here.. brings a lot of whats missing and he wont be a primary target for anyone (I think).. could be had for cheap - Dozzer
Have you jumped on the phone with Nonis yet, and put this master plan into action? |

I have to imagine WPG will re-sign one of the two. Hainsey does eat up a lot of minutes on avg which is good. His numbers weren't awful either considering they had the sieve Pavelec behind him.

i know... two reasons i think he might wanna go
one: pavelec makes him look worse than he is
two: he has to live in winnipeg |

They also were missing Enstrom for a lot of the year, he usually eats 24 minutes a night. |

I wouldn't go near that kind of money. He's not even close to worth that. And I STILL suspect he signs for more. The Stalberg idea above is better.
I'd actually like Briere. Give him a try centering Kessel and Lupul. - Dirte
That's why I said he's overpaid at that amount. I personally don't think he's worth more than 3 mil per year for 3 years. But people are saying he's going to get 5 to 5.5. The question was would I give him a long term contract at 5 mil so the answer is no. He's probably overpriced at 4.5 or 4 mill. But, as I stated earlier, that's the problem with free agency. Someone will overpay. If I had to pay him out of my own pocket I wouldn't want to pay him more than 3 million (not that I have that kind of money). But is he going to sign for 3 mill? No. But does all that mean the Leafs shouldn't look for an upgrade on Hamilton? That was my original point. |

he should go for 3-3.25 i bet. that 4.5million was a contract he signed when he was still projected as being a PMD. that never panned out so he re-invented himself as a solid stay at home guy.
i am sure he must know his big paydays are over. |

Okay, then you’re basically agreeing that Clarkson isn’t something the Leafs should reasonably pursue this summer. For all the reasons we’ve been pointing out. |

"I'm old and useless and nobody will let me play 5 minutes on the PP anymore...HEY LOOK GM'S I'M A SHUTDOWN GUY NOW!!!!!|
Signed,
Derek Morris, Ron Hainsey, Rostislav Klesla, Michal Rozsival, Eric Brewer, Johnny Oduya...Anton Stralman , Brad Stuart and Toni Lydman. I guess you could add Braydon Coburn in there too.

None of those guys really are, but they all had to change their game up a little as they got pushed out of their comfort zone.
Brewer and the Pizza man still make a lot of brutal plays though. |

No, I never said they shouldn't pursue him. Just the opposite. But what I'm willing to pay is not what gm's are willing to pay and it's not coming out of my pocket. Nonis should do his due diligence as any other gm will do. I won't be upset if Nonis overpays for Clarkson and he helps the Leafs win. I won't be upset if Nonis brings in someone cheaper and he helps the Leafs win. I won't be thrilled if Hamilton is still in the lineup next year. Sometimes you have to overpay to get the player. Just ask Bobby Clarke about the Lindros trade. I believe BC acknowledged he overpaid but he got the player he wanted. That's life in the NHL. Gotta get to work now. Nice chatting with you. |

3 years at 4.75 mill. I'm not a fan of contracts longer than 3 or 4 years. If he wants to sign in Toronto at that price and term, then that's great. Even at 4.75 he might be overpriced but I'm sure Nonis will try to sign some UFA and I won't be surprised if he makes an offer to Clarkson. But don't forget there are other factors, such as what other players out there want to sign in TO and what trades are available. All I've said is I'd like Clarkson or a similar player on the team next year and I don't think the Leafs should settle for keeping Hamilton on the big club. - TML60
Unfortunately, the players are.
Clarkson will want a five year deal, taking him to age 34, so he can sign one more deal and not have teams scared away by the 35+ deelio.
He's getting a five year deal. For more money than he is worth.
That's just how the cookie crumbles. |

One thing last season showed us is that Randy Carlyle can get a fair bit out of a pretty mediocre defense corps |
