Hopefully they can. But all signs point to Clarkson going for way more than he's worth. If it's a $5M a year long term signing, do you do it?

It can't hurt to ask, but I suspect it'll be a brief convo. Anything more than $3M, and I'm looking elsewhere.

- Dirte

I'd rather give Viktor Stalberg $2.5 M as a free agent. It was the Leafs speed that gave the Bruins trouble and he has serious jets.

Then we use the $2.5 M we save on Clarkson to help pay for a centre, which is what we really need.

buyout Briere and Pronger on ltir thats 11 off the books...still would be close I think...if they dont plan on buying bryz out ever then pick someone else to buyout
- senstroll

I bet they're trying to trade Meszaros. They're deep on D and he's injured and entering the last year of his deal. They might even buy him out but I bet they'd prefer to hang on to that 2nd buyout in case they need it on Bryz.

yup.. would like someone a bit more experienced than scrivens

rough hockey.. wear the other teams down

Look at the Bruins, they are geared for Playoff hockey. Big, strong, tuff and talented enough to piss off every team if they all buy in to team defense.

Burke built the Leafs the same. Thanks Brian. We don't need many pieces at all to win. We need a team commitment.

3 years at 4.75 mill. I'm not a fan of contracts longer than 3 or 4 years. If he wants to sign in Toronto at that price and term, then that's great. Even at 4.75 he might be overpriced but I'm sure Nonis will try to sign some UFA and I won't be surprised if he makes an offer to Clarkson. But don't forget there are other factors, such as what other players out there want to sign in TO and what trades are available. All I've said is I'd like Clarkson or a similar player on the team next year and I don't think the Leafs should settle for keeping Hamilton on the big club.

need some legit top 6 size (and by size i mean guys who use it) and some tweaks on D and I think the leafs are there. not the easiest pieces but stay on course and the leafs will get there.

I wouldn't go near that kind of money. He's not even close to worth that. And I STILL suspect he signs for more. The Stalberg idea above is better.

I'd actually like Briere. Give him a try centering Kessel and Lupul.

Looking through the list of top UFA's, a lot of injury prone guys in there. I wouldn't mind taking a look at someone like Boyes or Morrow but damn they dont play a lot anymore.

I agree. The tweaks on D are crucial if they want to keep improving.

It's true ...and the B's aren't even playing their best hockey.

Chara is Slovakian for winning.

steadying that D is probably the single most important off season task imo

We don't need big names to fill the roster. Again look at the Bruins. They play a simple defensive style. Their d core has one star. The rest are average, but with the style they play, they are very successful. Team defense makes a huge difference.

I'm willing to massage Gunnarson's hip all summer if necessary. He can be our Seidenberg.

i honestly think the cheapest safe bet would be Hainsey... I think he would do a nice job here.. brings a lot of whats missing and he wont be a primary target for anyone (I think).. could be had for cheap
