The value would have to be 2 2nds is what i am thinking or a 2nd and a 3rd. An offer sheet of around 4 mil per will only result in the kings getting a 2nd round pick back (I think). They would never match that offer sheet because then they would be stuck with him for a year at least. Leafs have no reason to give up Frattin. Id do carter ashton and a 3rd.

Mike Augello: Report: Leafs And Flyers Interested In Kings Bernier
- mikeinbuffalo

I'm going to make this short and sweet:

#1 priority: a #1 centre.

#2 priority: a stay-at-homer who can play with Dion.

If you addresss those two points, feel free to start looking at goalie options.

Until then, let's stick with the guy who has the ridiculously hot wife.

That is all.

I wouldn't mind that deal, IF the leafs can get komarov to stay. If komarov jumps ship and heads back to khl then we need to keep a guy like ashton who plays the same role as komarov and can fill that void.
- LeafsFan1205

If they are going to go young filling kormorov either D'amigo or Ashton could fill that role.

Except that you are bidding against the other teams who are interested. There will be a few, I would say especially Philadelphia when they buyout Bryz. Philly will pay a hefty price.

For that reason, I think the price goes too high and he becomes not worth it to the Leafs who are not "desperate" in net.

If the Flyers set the price, forget it. I imagine that if Bryz is bought out they will go after someone hard. I would not want to get into a bidding war with someone who needs the guy more than we do.

If not and the price is not too high, then go for it.

Edit -- or as he said above

Reimer + Bernier > Reimer + Scrivens

I think we can all agree on that.

You could have made this post even shorter and sweeter and just said "hot wife".

Aquiring bernier doesn't make much sense unless we plan to trade scrivens to someone like Edmonton..

Reimer/ Bernier both played for canada at the worlds one year.. Reimer went undefeated and canada plays Bernier in the medal round and loses..

Reimer is better than Bernier IMO.. he's proved more so far with his great series against the bruins. He's a much bigger goalie as well.

can't say Reimer Bernier wouldn't be a good combo but right now it obviously depends on the asking price.

Can't wait for the cup to be awarded and more trades and draft discussion to take priority!

Except your math is incorrect.

Reimer+ Bernier - whatever you had to give up to get Bernier < Reimer + Scrivens

Last year, the cost for Bernier at the draft was reported to be Scrivens and Frattin for Bernier, and the Leafs wouldn't go for it. This year, I can't imagine that price has changed and Frattin's value has only gone up. The Leafs would be dumb to do it this time. That kid has potential.
- tkecanuck341

I don't want the Leafs to trade Frattin. Let's see what he can do.

WTF would either of those teams need with Jonathan Bernier? Flyers have Bryzgalov and Mason, the Leafs have Riemer and Scrivens. If I was a fan of either team then I'd be happy with them going forward.

Sure but at what cost? Do we overpay for bernier so that we have a 50/50 with 2 young inexperienced tenders? Do we do that and risk losing what Reimer built this year?

How do you go to Reimer and say you did great this year but we're taking time away to give to bernier? How do you keep bernier happy (he wants to be a starter).

Makes no sense for the leafs.

- burn

It makes sense if the leafs believe Reimer cannot play consistent over an 82 game stint....which he has never done.
Reimer has earned the right to play ahead of Scrivens...he hasn't guaranteed himself the starting goal position.
If you can improve, you do it.

As a Kings fan, I would love to have Frattin on my team. However, like I said before, the Leafs would be dumb to do it. Who knows, Nonis could be the new Feaster and I could get what I want.

So is yours.
If Reimer + Bernier + whatever crap you had to give up, yeilds better results than its much better than Reimer + scrivens.

Flyers have an underperforming Bryzgalov at nearly $6mm/season and have major cap issues. They could buy out Bryz and have Bernier at less than half that cost.

Variable so you can't complete the equation yet. If the Leafs got Bernier for Scrivens straight up you would have to agree his math is indeed correct. Maybe.

Or they could pay a little more and have LA take Bryzgalov back the other way and force LA to buy him out instead. Their buyout bill is already pretty large with Briere. Something like B. Schenn, Coburn, and Bryzgalov for Bernier and Alec Martinez.
