Thoughts on targeting someone like Toni Lydman as a UFA?

Kind of under the radar.

Big, reliable defensively, can play 20 minutes a night.

Something like 10M$ for 3 years?

Didn't see a lot of Ducks games. And I can't say I paid attention to him when I did.

He good?

Just improvised this post in the other Habs thread, was wondering if it made sense.

a) For the Habs?
b) For the Ducks?
c) For the Ducks cap? (they would take on approx. 5M, maybe MB can offer to keep half of that?
d) Does anyone out there offer more than this for Ryan?
e) Is there even negociations between the teams starting from this offer?

To MTL: Bobby Ryan + 2013 4th round pick
To ANA: Andrei Markov + Raphael Diaz + David Desharnais + 2013 3rd rd. pick.

Leaving MTL like this?!

Galchenyuk-Plekanec-Ryan
Pacioretty-Eller-Gallagher
Bourque-Prust-Gionta
Moen-Dumont-White
Subban-?
Emelin-Gorges
Tinordi-Bouillon
Drewiske-Beaulieu

- kev1586

I doubt they are in a rush to get rid of Ryan.

He's under contract for the upcoming season... Maybe if they can't reach an agreement he'll be available at the deadline, though.

Ok to play in the top 4.

He's no Scuderi, but Scuderi won't sign in Montreal so...

just because they picked up one ex habs midget doesnt mean they'll welcome another, this one lacks the Saku heart!

also no way that deal works without the inclusion of a 1st somewhere along the lines

I mentioned this elsewhere. But moving forward montreal needs this format:

Line one: scoring
Line two: support scoring
line three: shut-down line
line four: energy line

Having guys like Desharnais or Eller on line 3 is a joke. You need shut down guys to play big minutes vs other teams top lines. Pleks could center that line imo. But having gionta and bourque there doesn't make sense. Moen should be traded at next years deadline cause im not sure what it is that he brings.

Yeah, I don't really get it either. But his name keeps coming up in rumours, and Ducks are said to be looking for D and a 2nd line C. Markov would be a good mentor for Fowler, plus he comes off the books after this year and both Diaz and Desharnais are cheaper options, which is perfect for Anaheim because it allows them to sign guys down the road once Souray, Beauchemin and Allen are gone.

Honestly, I'd be surprised that the Ducks would do this, or that another couldn't at the very least match the offer. Just thought it might be a good starting point for negotiations. I'm a little afraid of what the actual price might be.

Habs need to get real scoring threats for line one.

Galchenyuk and pacioretty can be 1st liners. Still lack that other pure offensive guy tho

I don't agree. I'd rather have a 3rd line that can also produce offensively and three defensively responsible guys in the top 6.

With Koivu and Selanne on the verge of retirement, I think they can't afford to let a guy like Ryan go.

We shall see.

Yeah, I answered you on this in the other thread. I disagree. Habs don't have a scoring line that is reliable 100% of the time. They must therefore score by committee. The shut down line is bullpoop. The 4th liners *should* be good enough to take on that role when necessary. Or you hybrid the lines for the last 5 minutes when up a goal and play it 2 lines pee-wee style:

Prust-Plekanec-(Gionta or someone else who is playing a good game)

well depending on how Gallagher's freshmen year goes and how long it takes Galchenyuk to adapt to the center position, it is...no can become a good scoring first line,

I thought it was exactly because those guyts were going that they were looking at trading Ryan for other scorers that might not hold the same potential but can get hot from time to time... But who knows.
