Buyout bryz now and this time next year the former vezina finalist finally wins his vezina trophy.... Then queue up us flyers fans complaining about trading away bryz too soon. I can see it happening.
- moylander

Doesn't matter, he won't win the Vezina here. Apparently, the only way to win a trophy as a Flyers is to take a slap shot to the face.
That said, your post is 100% correct.

I am sorry but I did read it somewhere. Apparently he is telling russian newspapers that Philly fans are the worst fans ever. I have been looking for it but can not find it. I assure you it was in the news whether it is true or not. If I find it I will send you a link to it.
- flyerdude17

You're getting it wrong.

He said the media was the worst and he talked about how in Europe all they show you is the beautiful places in the USA but that there are ghettos in Philly and people who won't work and want to live off the government. He also expounded on why Stalin was good for Russia.

Luongo will get about the same cap hit on his new contract as the one he will be bought out from. Everyone ok with that?
- Just5

It's a buyer's market on goaltenders again.

If they were patient enough, they could see if they could get a deep discount on Luongo before they have to make a decision on Bryz on July 5. Of course, they'd probably would have already traded for Mike Smith's rights and extended him to a Bryxtension well before then...

well i came on here to see the Briere news, and o no surprise whatsoever i see people bashing him...
i got nothing to say. absolutely ridiculous that people are hating on him, telling him to get his ass outta here when all he didn was play his best for us, and was a top playoff performer for us in every year. yes he's a one dimensional player but like come on. show the guy a little respect. he wanted to stay here because of his family. and just keep in mind he took less money to come to us than Montreal way back when he signed that contract.
so goddamnit show a little respect for a guy whos been extremely clasy for us

..and around and around the goalie carousel goes.. Keep chasing the goalies we don't have even if they've played here before.

If I were actually hoping for Flyer success but I'm not, this would be my goalie wishlist for what's out there:

1) Luongo (different contract)
2) Bernier ( up in the air as far as trade cost goes)
3) Miller ( same with this guy)
4) Backstrom
5) Halak
6) Khubodin
7) Emery
8) Svedberg
9) Thomas

- nelson911

I'd rather not have to trade for anyone. If we could OS Bernier, ok. But otherwise there are UFA's available. And Luongo seems like he is damaged goods at this point. And he never got the Canucks across the finish line.

What posts were bashing Briere? The only posts about the guy were joke trade proposals.

Correction: One post was about Briere, and it wasn't even bashing him so much as supporting a buyout.

You're being too optimistic. He's going to win the Vezina as the Devils goalie and will win them another cup!

Briere will go for business reasons because he doesn't fit here anymore with the ton of young centres we have. I have mixed feeling on this because he's such a playoff beast and as you say, has been nothing but class and worked hard for the org. He's gonna go, but it sucks. I'll always be a fan.

I think it means he has one more year to prove himself but I will bet he is gone either this year or next year for sure.
Let's face it the guy is bad mouthing Philly in Russia and does not want to play here anymore but he is in the drivers seat. Worst signing ever.

- flyerdude17

As far as your first point, I agree, if he comes back, one more year to prove himself. And I'm sure that the results needed to keep him longe term are going to be pretty high. As far as your latter point. I don't agree with that, and I'll just leave it at that.

He was the best flyer for the first 25 games or so this year
- Just5

He's a cancer in the locker room. His only saving grace is that he's Snider's guy. But I say end the nightmare now. And yes, he is streaky like that. I recall a 10 or so game run last year as well.

It's either a CBO this year, or next. They can't risk going any farther than 2014 w/ that contract on the books w/ the cap recapture penalties.

I believe the decision hinges more on what options they have to replace him via trade/UFA/CBO UFA/OS/etc. If they have something solid lined up this summer, they'll do it now. If things aren't looking so hot, they might delay it until next summer.

- Tomahawk

Actually they can risk going further with that contract. And I think if the results were there that they needed, I don't think they'd hesitate to do so. But as we know, that is a huge if.

Esche's 2004 performance was the best playoffs a Flyers goalie has had since I became a fan 20 years ago.

It's a big stretch to call him a cancer in the locker room.

Good thing there isn't a such thing as a Jurassic Park. Being stuck on that Island would be worse then being stuck in a burning building...
