There is a new rule in this year's CBA concerning Tagging space. On March 1st, every team's tagging space is increased by 10M. Not Cap space, but tagging space. That will come in very handy for extending player contracts.

As much as we all hate you (in a good way), you sure do know your way around the CBA.

I think trading for Halak even with the bridge burning will be expensive.
Waiting for Lu to get bought out could mean other opportunities are lost.
I like the Bernier offer sheet of Bill's a lot. Even if Bernier is a bit unproven.
It's likely one of Mason or Bernier will turn out to be a #1 goalie.
The idea of a 2nd offer sheet to Voynov is evil genius.
And congrats to Mr and Mrs Flyskippy!

Bourdon having to go through waivers is a bummer, I forgot about that.
Really want them to keep Read. He reminds me of Sharp, who looked like Chicago's best player last night.

I think Bernier's new team is going to be decided before July 5th, when he can be signed to an OS.

Everyone is worried about being able to re-sign Read. I think they can do that. Sure, Giroux is going to more then double his money, and Schenn and Couturier have to re-signed. But I don't know if everyone is aware of it, but Brayden Schenn' Cap hit is $3,110,000. But he was only paid $855,000 last year. Couturier's Cap hit is $1.375. But he was only paid $925,000 last year in salary. So unless Schenn totally explodes this upcoming season, there is a good chance that his cap hit on his next deal, could be lower then what it is now. Couturier's likely won't go lower, but it's not likely to be much higher either. So those players are not an issue. The Cap will be tight as it always is. But it's not a huge problem that many are making it out to be.

Sorry, catching up on posts from last night. Saw some Bernier offer sheet chatter. Any chance there's a team out there willing to go up to the ~$3.4M+ tier and give up a 1st and 3rd for Bernier? Calgary?

Quick question on offer sheet rules - if the offering club has multiple picks in a round are they able to choose which of them they send as RFA compensation or only their "natural" pick that wasn't acquired? For instance, if Calgary sends $3.4M offer sheet for Bernier, can they give up their 28th pick they received as part of Iginla trade?

I don't think he'll get that. Probably the next tier down.
And you have to use YOUR picks, not picks you have acquired, the "natural" pick.

Have to use your own picks for OS purposes... even if let's say you traded your 2nd rounder (45th pick let's say) but have another from a different team that's even better (35th pick), you can't substitute the one from the other team. If you really want to go an offer sheet route, you'd have to make a trade and get your pick back in this example.

So you see a trade for him being worked out?
It would be possible if Lombardi doesn't demand too much.

Demands tend to be higher out of the gate. When push comes to shove, Lombardi will take the best deal he can get around the Draft.

Me? No. My wife & child-to-be do!

3 hours of waiting at home still before heading out. Then 3 hours until the procedure. I'm more antsy now than on my 10th Christmas Eve when I asked for a bike and 'The Empire Strikes Back' Atari game.

I don't think trading for Halak is the answer. If many around here are serious about Mason being number 1, Halak won't be happy sitting the bench..

I'm not sold that Mason is the number 1.
I'm ok bringing another goalie to compete for it.
The problem with Halak is they will want one of the young centers back in a trade.

Depends on t suitors for Halak, IMO and there won't be many. Most teams are more or less set in goal. Here is a breakdown of goalies under contract/rights (aka I'm bored at work):

ANA: Hiller, Fasth
BOS: Rask (RFA)
BUF: Miller, Enroth (RFA)
CGY: Kiprusoff
CAR: Ward, Peters
CHI: Crawford
COL: Varlamov, Giguere
CBJ: Bobrovsky (RFA)
DAL: Lehtonen, Bachman (RFA)
DET: Howard, Gustavsson
EDM: Dubnyk
FLA: Markstrom (RFA), Clemmensen
LAK: Quick, Bernier (RFA)
MIN: Harding, Kuemper, Hackett
MTL: Price, Budaj
NSH: Rinne
NJD: Brodeur, Hedberg
NYI: Poulin (RFA), DiPietro
NYR: Lundqvist, Biron
OTT: Anderson, Lehner
PHI: Bryzgalov, Mason
PHX: N/A
PIT: Fleury, Vokoun
SJS: Niemi
STL: Halak, Elliott, Allen
TBL: Bishop, Lindback
TOR: Reimer, Scrivens
VAN: Schneider, Luongo
WAS: Holtby, Neuvirth
WPG: Pavelec

This list does not include UFAs and only includes players that played in the NHL last year. I'd say Calgary, Minnesota, NY Islanders, Philadelphia, Phoenix and Winnipeg will definitely be looking for a goalie.
