They are working on it, but it will only have a minimal impact on this summer's moves.

thanks for the update. is the price im hearing for streit confirmed? kind of figured briere was on borrowed time. respect him, but it makes too much sense not to.

Briere is a goner, and depending on who one believes(Eklund, Ren Lavoie & Panaccio or Dreger & McKenzie) so is Bryzgalov. Panaccio claims that the Flyers will try to trade for a goalie before using a buy out on Bryzgalov, but if they can't he will be staying and another trade will be made to clear room.

Even if they use both CBOs, they will still likely trade a defenseman, just out of sheer numbers(they have 8 guys who are not waivers exempt once Streit is officially signed). Outside of that, it's anyone's guess.

Im hoping 7, I couldn't argue with 8 though. How do you feel about the Malkin contract?

Probably, but with G getting paid superstar money and the uncertainity if and how much the cap will go up next summer, I gotta believe making a run at an expensive forward is pretty much out of the question. Unless, Hartnell or Simmonds is being moved out and the replacement gets slotted in. Of course, personally I don't see anyone as a free agent that much better of an option, which will be more expensive.

If they buy out Briere and Bryzgalov and don't re-sign Timonen or Meszaros, they will have $30mm in tagging space. That should leave room to make moves.

My guess is it will be close to $8, either over or under by $500K

yeah i think it would be around that. wouldnt be shocked to see him get 8. i think the getzlaf deal should be a decent comparable. i do believe it is worth it though to just pay the premium and lock up your stars

I personally think they trade for Bernier and nuke Bryz and Briere.

i wish it would have been able to be done under the old CBA to bring the cap hit down like crosbys, but shero intentionally staggers his deals as to not get hit with many in the same year. it basically is what it is. it had to be done, as there is no way i wanted to see him in another uniform. it certainly isnt as if he is playing for peanuts, although he definitely could have gotten more on the open market if he so chose.

If they trade Read for Bernier and get a draft pick (as low as a 4th) back also, more palatable to lose Read?

haha i obviously hope it falls on the over, but i could see either way as well. regardless, he is a young star and thats essentially the going rate these days.

Absolutely correct, you don't trade superstars in the prime years of their career. It was a no-brainer.

It'll also be an 8 year deal, I could see them trying to give bridge deals to Couturier and Schenn.

The Blackhawks aren't able to locate the Krajicek, Parent, and Leighton combination in Black and Gold.

It's a fair hockey trade for both teams in my opinion. Read will get north of $3.5 million on an extension, not sure with B. Schenn and Coots being RFAs along with the other forwards signed, just don't see how a number like that for Read will fit with the uncertainity of how much/if any the cap moves next summer.

exactly. in the grand scheme of things, its only a marginal raise, and if the cap goes up it really wont make that big of a difference, so this way, barring the cataclysmic, 71 should retire a pen. now whether people believe he is worth it or not is up for debate i guess, but i fall on the side that he is.

letang is the goner. his increase will at least be double what he is currently making, and i just dont see how the pens fit him in. he had dollar signs in his eyes before the season even ended. im sure his eyes get greener by the day with guys like gonch and streit getting 5 a year.

Panotch and the crew helped run Stalin boy out of town. I wonder when Brooksie and Company will run the self proclaimed King out of NYC.
