1. Bernier (trade or OS),
2. post-CBO Luongo (on cheap contract),
3. Keep Bryzgalov.

- Tomahawk

Just worry about what acquiring Bernier would cost asset wise. Do you let Read go and sign a winger UFA, and if so, would you get Read's versatility?

I really like the Luongo option, but you have to think Luongo would fetch some return on a trade. Is he a sure CBO? How would he handle the media here?

I don't think option 3 is that bad personally. If Mason takes the reigns, then CBO him next offseason. I personally don't like the idea of spending assets to fix what is not our biggest problem.

Welp, it's one thirty and that's the wittiest thing I'm going to say all day. Might as well go back to bed, it's all downhill from here.

Are we really putting that much stock in Mason's last 8 games vs. the rest of his career?

He should be the back-up heading into the season.

- bradleyc4

And if he outplays Halak in camp, or if Halak falters (again) early in the season?

A disgruntled Eastern European goaltender w/ a chip on his shoulder... where have we heard that before?

so what you are saying is that the flyers would rather have a head case with a higher price tag out of these two?

Well, it's only one-year guaranteed with Halak. And he has a tradeable contract.

Halak didn't burn bridges in St. Louis. Suggesting so is just over blowing the initial report of an argument while ignorant of all of the information that came out afterwards.

Blues want to:

1)upgrade in net and/or acquire a proven top 6 playmaking center with reasonable cap hit

2)let a team overpay in a trade without the trade opening up holes in our lineup

3)keep the team as is for next season.

No point in talking about trading for Halak or Elliott unless you are willing to meet one of the top two, because Blues can have their third choice without involving other teams at all.

Patrick Sharp had issues with Hitchcock too and all I ever hear is people complaining that they traded him.

What do you guys think of Brent Burns? Ive always been a fan of his, and I wonder what the plan is in San Jose after another disappointing season and what you guys think it would take to get him or if the flyers would even be interested in anyone from the sharks if they plan on tanking that club.
- iroc4me2

If there was any interest, it would be as a Forward not a defenseman. He's pretty horrendous defensively as a defenseman.

So the Isles won't keep Thomas around because Halak set his contract on fire? I'm getting confused.

I say trade Mason, keep Bryz and sign Thomas... Hire Robert Esche as goalie coach. LOL Drama! At least we'd get another Winter Classic game because HBO 24/7 would have to do another series.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you wanted the Flyers to go with Bobrovsky, versus signing a Free Agent Goalie in the past. Is going with Mason any different from that?

Yes.

Mason has years of NHL mediocrity under his belt already.

In no exact terms, it's a little bit different. It's a gamble on a young goalie that could go either way, but there was positive talk about Bobrovsky's play prior to joining the Flyers. For Mason, he's reportedly struggled since his rookie season.

This is really based on vague understanding of each prior to joining the Flyers, of course.

Esche's 2004 performance was the best playoffs a Flyers goalie has had since I became a fan 20 years ago.

That is a factor, but what Mason has had that Bobrovsky didn't have at the time, was a full Season playing at a high level in the NHL. Mason is still only 25. I'd prefer if Bryzalov is gone, that they give Mason a shot, instead of trading valuable assets to acquire another Goalie. It's clear that Mason has talent and athletic ability.
