Why not draft a D man @ 11 and have a little patience?
- hereticpride

Who are you going to draft @11 that will have the stature of a Letang by summer 2014?

The Flyers defensive core better be outstanding with all the cash being paid out.

Lots of 1-0 wins this year. I'm interested in seeing what top 6 forward is brought in to replace Briere.

The point is Streit's now a financial roadblock to adding that Pronger-replacement you're talking about... instead of having the full $10M from Mez and Kimmo coming off the books to go after guys like Letang, Phaneuf, etc... now you have to either allocate money from elsewhere, and/or hope the cap goes up, and/or give up a boatload of valuable assets via trade.

All because they had to have Mark Streit now, who is arguably a worse two-way dman than Carle, is definitely short of a two-way replacement for Kimmo, on a contract that there won't be a CBO for when the inevitable decline in production sets in.

Not to mention they already had a very similar player in-house in Erik Gustafsson.

I don't know. This sounds a little extreme to me. If it takes 10 mil for phaneuf I'd cry If my team signed him. Letang gets resigned in Pitt I think. The cap is going to skyrocket again until the next lockout. It's not a good contract. But at least no NMC and the kids stay. I like Gus but he still has much to prove. I think Gus will be a fixture on the PK this season

They probably will add somebody. But it doesn't have to be a top scorer.

Finally able to chime in here. After reading Bill's list, my first pick would be Halak, followed by a post-buyout Luongo, then Bernier.
- Flyskippy

And draft Austin Lotz you can't leave that out.

Best part of it is that they went the extra step and invented a team for him too!

You cutting the checks? If not, does it matter? The key is cap space. They will have some in trading Meszaros and buying out Bryz and Briere.

Flyers will be fine cap wise when the buyout bryz and Briere. About $4.4 for Gagne and backup goalie without using any LTIR. That also assumes they don't trad a Dman. $5.25 for Streit is a pretty good deal despite being 4 years.

It matters cap wise.

Where trading Mez? That's news to me. Where did you read that at?
