they will package Coburn, #11 + to move up to get the Canes pick.
- wilsonecho91

To do what? Take a forward? Then we're royally screwed on D.

All of this is just a hand shake? When can they begin to start buying out players?
- dingo8urbaby

48 hours after the SCF ends, buyouts begin

I'm not here to do anything. I know what the Isles short coming are. I just stated the Flyers are not that much better then the Isles on the back end as some think. That's all. Too each his own I'm not here to get in a pissing match
- Vukota

Isles have some good young defenseman. But even at this point in his career. The Isles don't have a defenseman that is close to Timonen.

pretty sure they can sign players as long as they have the rights to them. it's just a contract extension, not a UFA signing.

although idk how it works with going over the cap (which you would by signing him).

PP QBs are indeed hard to come by. still not sure one is worth over $5M just to be a PP QB alone.

streit would've gotten the contract had he hit the open market regardless. i just think that you guys are gonna regret it halfway through the season when you realize how much he's aged and how bad he is defensively. not saying he's a 5 or 6 but he should slot in as 3.

the contract might be worth it for a season, maybe 2, but once you're paying the dude when he's 38 or 39 or if he retires before then and the cap hit is still on books, you guys might be saying WTFFFF.

I agree the cap hit is troublesome...

Can they keep all 7? With Grossman and Mezs injuries, you would think a little insurance would be good. Not to mention Kimmo only has a year left.
- section32

They could, but I'd be surprised if they had faith in Meszaros' health to use up $4mm in cap room...of course, if Grossmann can't start the season, they may need him

i guess time will tell. again, he would've gotten the same deal had he hit the open market, if not more, from another team.

Not true. Must have the tagging space available even for a contract extension.

Yep. Starting July 5th they can go 10% over the cap, but until then, they can't exceed it without LTIR relief. July 5th ends LTIR and starts the off season.

As soon s they do a buyout they can officially sign him

Calgary only has two D men signed. If anyone thinks he would have got by Feaster for less than 5.75 they're only kidding themselves.

Can't place someone on LTIR after your playing Season has ended. Basically doesn't exist anymore.

So the choice was between signing a guy to a sunset contract or be forced to trade one of the kids?

Apparently, there's only two ways to skin a cat.

What other option would you go with?

I honestly think that with the premium that defenseman get paid over forwards, you have to make that part of the formula for determining "best player available"

if it is even close, they have to take a defenseman

so the majority of the 10% you're allowed to go over is already gonna be taken up by pronger's cap hit?
