All things considered, here's the order of which guy I want for next year:

1) Halak
2) Bernier
3) Khubodin
4) Emery
5) Thomas
6) Luongo
7) Svedberg
8) Backstrom
9) Nabokov
10) Miller

- NickTheKid87

I want Mason to get his shot since he is on a 1 year deal. I only want someone to either split time with him, or be his back-up. My choice would be:

1. Bernier
2. Thomas
3. Nabakov
4. Emery
5. Svedberg

Just reading this gets me excited for the offseason. As much as I am enjoying the Stanley Cup, I just want it to end. I want to get the offseason on the road.

For as highly touted as Bernier is/was, I am not trading Read for him. Like it has been said you can offer sheet him and only give up a 2nd. I think a 2nd rounder and prospect would be the best the Flyers can offer (not saying they have tons of prospects). It isn't worth giving up a proven player for an upproven goalie.

going from Bryz to Tim Thomas seems like jumping out of the frying pan into the fire

but sure, I guess it could happen

hate the idea of Tim Thomas playing for the Flyers myself

- Marc D

And it's not like Thomas has been the type of guy who, in the past, would hold the hand of a young goaltender and provide mentoring.

Bringing in Tim Thomas is not a personnel move, so much as an act of desperation.

What do you guys think of Brent Burns? Ive always been a fan of his, and I wonder what the plan is in San Jose after another disappointing season and what you guys think it would take to get him or if the flyers would even be interested in anyone from the sharks if they plan on tanking that club.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the idea at all.

The Flyers could always use another guy capable of growing facial such that he looks like a wookiee.

It would give Hartnell someone to talk to.

I really like Halak he's in his prime plus has had success in the playoffs. I am for giving Mason a shot but if Halak is available and relatively cheap, I'd get him.

I don't think you'll see Burns as a defenseman any time soon... he was so much more effective (and less of a liability) back at forward it wasn't even funny.

Exactly how badly are his bridges burned in St. Louis, do you think? I'm curious about what he'd cost.
- BulliesPhan87

He really hasn't burned brides. He was seen arguing with Hitchcock during one game about being upset he wasn't playing, and it was blown up in the media as some huge deal. However most reporters nearby during the so called "argument" couldn't even tell they were arguing, and Hitchcock had no idea there was supposedly an issue, telling people that sort of discussion happens all the time, and he would be more concerned if Halak was content not playing.

St. Louis moving Halak would be because we are looking to upgrade in net or with a playmaking top 6 center. Not seeing a realistic deal with the Flyers doing that.

Also think he is staying in San Jose.
He was one of their better players.

Great perspective, Bill. Thanks. Ok, so here is the question: 1) Which scenario would be most likely? You can even give it % chance kind of ranking. And 2) what would your preference be based on how the team sits today (assuming we sign Streit and both Briere and Bryz are bought out)?

Halak is an intriguing name to me. Not too expensive and has shown the ability to be a beast in the playoffs.
- Jsaquella

I think we saw from this past season that Halak's pretty much at the boiling point over always having been forced to share/give up his net. Being brought in to tandem w/ Mason? Oh boy.

What about trading for Brian Elliott ?

He's 27, he is capable of league leaging performance (every other year), and he's only 1.8 mill

Elliott is their bridge to Jake Allen.

1. Bernier (trade or OS),
2. post-CBO Luongo (on cheap contract),
3. Keep Bryzgalov.

I could see the Islanders tolling his contract, jut to try and recoup an asset out of him.
- Jsaquella

EJ Hradek tweeted out a few days ago that they would not toll his contract.

Halak is the most intriguing name. But with only one year left on his deal, I worry about having him leave or overpaying him to stay.

Haha, exactly.

Halak's more liable to smother Allen in his sleep than be a good mentor to the kid.

Are we really putting that much stock in Mason's last 8 games vs. the rest of his career?

He should be the back-up heading into the season.
