It is a concern. But they'd have a lot of the same worries with a McBain or Liles.

I do wish they had waited. They probably could have gotten the same deal done with him as a UFA. Of course, they also might have run into somebody else bidding higher.

The Flames only have two D men signed. It would have been Wideman all over again.

It's funny how I ask a simple question on the FLYERS blog about the Flyers, and get responses that are attacking the Isles. All I wanted to know was your opinion about the FLYERS.
- NYI44

Cause no offense it was a dumb question in a 82 game season Flyers probably would have gotten in. Team was capable of playoffs last season if it wasnt for injury after injury. Same team plus more help definately a playoff team. How far they go is another question.

I didn't notice the slow skating when watching him. He might make a very good partner for coburn.

It is funny, cause I gave you a responce. I know its a little burried. But it meant the Islanders weren't as good as they appeared to be, and the Flyers were worse then they should have been. Everything being equal this year Flyers make the playoffs and the Islanders get a nice pick next year... In Philly.

just like to point out that you guys should tell me who was the last UFA who was at the top of his class that DIDNT get overpaid?
You'd think people would (frank)ing realize these types of things...
Brad Richards was overpaid. Marian Gaborik was overpaid. Parise and Suter were overpaid, Danny was overpaid, Bryz was overpaid, every god forsaken top player at their UFA class was overpaid!!!

how have people not caught onto this yet??? If you want a top UFA YOU ARE GOING TO OVERPAY.

He was going to get at least three years and he was getting more than $5 million after Gonchar signed...like everyone else, all you can do is hope he stays healthy and moves the puck efficiently and effectively.

Personally...he's not cheap, but he's the bridge until the Flyers find out what Shayne Goestibehere is, if Erik Gustafsson can do it for 82 games, and whoever they (hopefully) draft in the first or second round this year.

I think the Flyers needed a bridge guy more than they needed to burn assets like picks or young players. Just gotta hope for the best.

Streit's been solid but was "aging offensive defenceman" really what 20th place team with the third best power play this season needed?

He supposedly wanted 4 years and $20mm from the Isles. Why anyone in their right min would think that he'd take less to sign with the Flyers escapes me.

Really need grossmann's back healthy now. Timonen/Gus/Streit needs schenn/grossmann/coburn size.

Yeah you're right. Every team in the league can take Pitt to 6 games with 2 OT games. What does the playoffs have to do with the shortened season? I understand getting into the playoffs, but once in the playoffs, the lockout can't be an excuse.

We couldn't just sign Marc-Andre Bergeron like everyone else trying to bridge a gap?

these little sound bites miss so much of the picture

a puck moving offensive defenseman is one of their biggest needs

and to get one they either had to over pay a UFA like Streit or trade away Couturier

come on Mr Mirtle, you should be smarter then that

I worry about the years in the context of the over 35 rule. That being said, he could be just fine and play all four seasons mostly injury free and it turns out to be a good deal. Timo did just fine playing till that age for the most part.

I guess we will see, it was a risk on the Flyers part but when have they not taken risks? Lets hope he stays relatively healthy.

The Isles are an upcoming team. They're going to have to be dealt with in the Eastern Conference. Especially if Wang spends some money.

Flyers were terrible last year with the breakout pass 5v5. Streit will help with that a whole lot

They had a completely different/better team this year. Vokoun, Iginla, Murray, and Morrow just to name a few. And by the way, isles were an 8 seed.
