I assume Letang is wearing the skirt for that routine, what with the hair. - BulliesPhan87
Why does anyone have to wear a skirt? Martin Short smashed that barrier almost 30 years ago.

Not sure if trading Letang would be a mistake...it would depend on the return. I'd definitely trade him out west, nowhere near the eastern conference. I'm sure the return value would be huge if an extension is in place...possible deals (I am trying to estimate inflation due to bidding war as well):
ANA: Ryan + G prospect + 1st <-> Letang + Kunitz + Kennedy
VAN: Edler + Kassian + 1st + <-> Letang + Kennedy
WPG: Kane + Bogosian <-> Letang + Kunitz + Kennedy
STL: Shattenkirk + 1st + Prospect/or grinder <-> Letang
CLB: J. Johnson + Foligno + 1st (14th) <-> Letang + Kennedy
* JJ and Crosby connection
COL: 1st overall <-> Letang + Kennedy
* PITT then has some fun dealing this pick!
Just random thoughts...may have over-estimated Letang value, but I don't think so (I'm assuming he's got an 6-8 year contract in place + bidding way). - mventres
The deal that makes the most sense is with Edmonton:
Letang for the 7th overall pick, either Smid or Petry, and a higher end forward prospect not named Magnus |

Petry?Really? Is he better than Fistric? The only guy I'd want from that blue line would be Smid.
From the East, i'd probably deal Letang to the Islander (for the right deal, like M.Martin/Okposo). |

ONLY if we have to, then:
St. L : Letang
Pitts: Shattenkirk, Stewart
or
St. L: Letang
Pitts: Pietrangelo, Rattie
Add in either TK or whomever from our side if necessary or another prospect from their side, but you get the idea(s). |

I don't see Shero trading him to a rival. Plus, i don't think a deal gets done without a NHL ready defenseman coming back. If I'm Shero and the Isles call, I would say the deal starts with Hamonic, and goes from there. Most likely though, Letang will be playing in the Western Conference if he gets traded. |

No way if Letang is traded, does he stay in the east. |

Both those deals are hard because Shattenkirk, Stewart, and Pietrangelo are all RFAs |

Shattenkirk makes 1.3M and Pietrangelo makes 3.167 (so look for him to go to at least 5.5). Obviously it all depends on Letang guaranteeing resigning there and St. L. obliging us. No biggie! |

Besides the fact that neither of those deals make much sense for St Louis.
Why trade Pietrangelo for Letang when he is going to be a similar caliber player, and cheaper? And then to throw in a quality prospect who they would control at a low cap hit for at least a few years...
Shattenkirk might not be on that level, but you'd basically give up a quality second pairing defesnseman and a power forward for a 1st pairing guy that you don't need.
Think about these proposed deals from both sides.... |

ehh, that's not enough to give him to a team that the Pens will see 6 times a year.
Another team i think would be interesting is Dallas. If we could pry away Erikkson and maybe their young d-man Dillon, i would be happy. Dillon is going to be a stud stay at home defenseman. |

It's a nice line of thought but you have to think St.Louis' lineup is not cutting it in the playoffs. A small change (yet big) would benefit them. They had a lot of trouble scoring in the playoffs. I guess Letang could help on the PP and 5 on 5. |

Hamonic would be nice, but Okposo and Martin? You'd take an underachieving 20 goal scorer and Matt Cooke-light for Letang? |

So trade Letang because we can't afford him and get Pietrangelo who will be looking for the same money?
Not to mention, there is no way they even consider adding Rattie to that. St.Louis has no desire or need for Letang.
If Letang is traded it will be for several inexpensive pieces (shutdown D men at the top of this list), not another high priced player. |

Now you're talking! Eriksson he would be amazing in Pittsburgh (and his great cap hit of $4M). You can't have him AND Dillon. They would be giving up too much. |

If you look at their cap hits you'll know why I handpicked them. M.Martin would be very nice for our 4th line for years to come. Basically a replacement to Adams. Hamonic is a very good shut down defenseman. Okposo...I see him as a Fedotenko type. He could work well on our top 2 lines. Give him to either, Sid or Geno. |

Martin is a pretty good puck moving D-man. I said this in a earlier blog......I don't think the Pens need that high level, offensive minded d-man with all the firepower they have up front. They need a more balanced, defense-minded group of guys who have trace amounts of offensive ability. I also think Dumolin will get a shot with the big club next season, and he is cut from the same cloth as Martin. Plus, let's not forget about Despres. |
