Don't call him the best GM in pro sports, not even the NHL. Three or four Flyers fans get upset when you call him that, even though he is.

To shed some light on why I ask, a poster against playing Carcillo tonight cited Cooke as part of his reasoning:

Now, playing Carcillo is a whole other conversation. But looking at the comparison to Cooke, I felt it really didn't hold, what with Cooke's play being a positive for the Penguins.

Cooke is the only player that showed up for game 2 and he was pretty good in 1, 3 and 4 as well.

Cooke should be resigned. He is a very good third line player for us; valuable on the pk. I actually liked what he did when he was put with Malkin and Neal in game four.

I'll miss Cooke if he doesn't resign, bu I also think he is replacable. If he demands three years I'd pass on him... hope he comes back affordable

A 2 year, 4 Mil contract would be perfect for Cooke. 2 Mil is what you want to pay for a 3rd line guy who is a top 2 PKer and can score between10 to 20 goals in a season. Plus, gives him a small raise

Replaceable with what? There is nothing but garbage on the market. Your boy Iggy is replaceable.

Canadians have any interest in Letang?? Could see a Gorges/Letang deal with other pieces thrown in.
- cap1681

Having Subban (thats mr norris to you ) pretty much means the habs have no reason to ever go after Letang though

I wasn't aware I even had a fan base... cool! See! thats what being realistic, factual, knowlegable, and polite is all about. Drop the antagonism and name-calling (retard?!? really?) and study the game/finances/team more and you'll earn that same respect!

It's ok, as long as you understand I represent all Flyers fan, as well as the organization and the players on the team. I'm also responsible for the opinions of said entities. So, y'know, I guess he sure showed me, and by extension all of Philadelphia.

Who knows if the rumor mill of the Habs wanting Letang is legit, but Subban isn't signed past next season. They could take on Letang and his measly $3.5 mil cap hit this coming season, then either move Subban (and recoup pretty much what they gave up getting Letang), or ride them both out for the season.

If they trade Letang (which will be a mistake, but possibly a foregone conclusion with the Malkin extension), I'd think they'd rather acquire some forwards who can compete with the Bruins of the world. Some guys who can control the puck in the corners/along the boards and can come away with it. I'm not talking about fighters/goons, but just some guys who are stronger/bigger (Lucic lite types). The Penguins are a good team, but when their finesse game was taken away this year, they seemed unable to get anything going.

Aside from Game 2, I thought the defense was actually pretty good. But when you constantly are killing yourself just to keep possession in the offensive zone, the other team's going to be able to keep high pressure on you. Get some guys who can make life hell for the opposition defense and not lead to easy transitions for the other team and the D won't be worn out by the start of the 3rd.

Not sure if trading Letang would be a mistake...it would depend on the return. I'd definitely trade him out west, nowhere near the eastern conference. I'm sure the return value would be huge if an extension is in place...possible deals (I am trying to estimate inflation due to bidding war as well):

ANA: Ryan + G prospect + 1st <-> Letang + Kunitz + Kennedy

VAN: Edler + Kassian + 1st + <-> Letang + Kennedy

WPG: Kane + Bogosian <-> Letang + Kunitz + Kennedy

STL: Shattenkirk + 1st + Prospect/or grinder <-> Letang

CLB: J. Johnson + Foligno + 1st (14th) <-> Letang + Kennedy
* JJ and Crosby connection

COL: 1st overall <-> Letang + Kennedy
* PITT then has some fun dealing this pick!

Just random thoughts...may have over-estimated Letang value, but I don't think so (I'm assuming he's got an 6-8 year contract in place + bidding way).
