Flyer Fan...

What's the chances of Bryz and Briere being bought out ? If Bryz does, does Homer take any heat from management ?

- Pairo11

Briere is 100%. Bryz (if they reach a deal with Streit) is about 95%. Any it's not Homer, Snider was the one who pushed it.

Went back and read all the blogs, great job Ryan.

As far as this one...

To replace Dupuis' production on the open market is going to cost alot more than keeping him. Plus he's been a loyal soldier that suits up every game. Give him a healthy raise that will keep him happy. I think if the Pens double his salary and give him 4 years he'll stay. I would rather go 3 years but if he signs for 3mill I have no problem giving him a 4th year.

If the Pens lose Dupuis they have more holes to fill than just his winger spot, the guy does it all.

That's the key right there, and boils it down better than any stats or arguments can.

It's not like this team is brewing with offensive prospects that can come in and skate 17 minutes a night and score 20 goals. You'd either have to give up more assets in a trade or overpay a free agent.

I'm not sure which GM was a bigger retard - Feaster for issuing the offer sheet without realizing it would cost him a bunch, or Colorado matching. I would have let him go to Calgary.

Wasn't there also an issue where O Reilly played in the KHL after the NHL started which would have made him clear waivers even before the trade went down? So in theory the Flames would have traded all those picks for him and he still could have been claimed somewhere else.

since I live in CO, ive watched a few AVs games, they're a joke. The announcers act like Varlomov is the next Roy and Sakic handing the cup to Bourque was teh greatrest moment in sports history. But tiks are dirt cheap!

Duper is going to retire as a Penguin. It will be done in the next day or 2.

Does it worry anyone else that Shero signed his own death warrant by giving Bylsma a 2 year extension?

If Bylsma fails again Shero looses his job as well.

I could be wrong, but I can't foresee anyway that this new management team is successful in Colorado. You have a GM in title only with Sherman, a great hockey guy but with zero management experience in Sakic, and an egotistical head coach who wants to play GM on the side in Roy.

GM and coach are the two obviously most important building blocks of a franchise, and right now neither of them (if you consider Sakic the de facto GM) have any professional hockey experience that doesn't involve wearing equipment.

Ok... here are Dupuis numbers with and without Crosby.

2010-11
With Sid - 40 Games / .20 GPG / .25 APG / .45 PPG
Without - 41 Games / .22 GPG / .24 APG / .46 PPG

2011-12
With Sid - 22 Games / .50 GPG / .59 APG / 1.09 PPG
Without - 60 Games / .23 GPG / .35 APG / .58 PPG

2012-13
With Sid - 36 Games / .47 GPG / .25 APG / .72 PPG
Without - 12 Games / .25 GPG / .75 APG / 1.00 PPG

Over the last three seasons:
With Sid - 98 Games / .37 GPG / .33 APG / .69 PPG
Without - 113 Games / .23 GPG / .35 APG / .58 PPG

The 22 games in 2011-12 season throws it out of whack a little. If you take out that season and just use 2010-11 & 2012-13, he is dead even at .58 points per game with and without Sid.

I went to school in Colorado and still follow them. They have a decent core group to build with. Landeskog, Duchesne, ROR - I guess, Erik Johnson if he gets his ass in gear, Parenteau played well, McGinn, Mitchell is solid ... they NEED Seth Jones. If they take anyone else, they fail.

The farm system is terrible though.

Also from what I understand the owner also owns the Nuggets and spends most of his energy on the NBA. Its unfortunate Crawford is now a good goalie for the Hawks and Statsny cant live up to his name. Duchene and Landeskog are all really good players. Pepsi Center is really nice too, I like it more than CEC.

Let's see if Briere is affordable. Sure, we need at least a few big forwards to complete against teams with big defenders, but let's grab as many Flyers secrets as we can from him (like Talbot going to the Flyers).

I don't think he'd fit well on the Penguins. Over his entire career, he struggles (to put it lightly) when he plays on the wing. He's much more successful at center. But from what I hear, the Penguins have 2 pretty good centers already. He's definitely NOT a good defensive player, so he doesn't fit into a bottom-6 role either. If you can live with limited regular-season production, you could slot him in on Malkin's wing a use him on the 2nd PP unit maybe.

He is still offside.

Pass on Briere. He wouldn't be a great fit for what we need.

Looking for simple responses here, for the sake of argument elsewhere: What are Penguins fans feelings on Matt Cooke? How important is he to this team, how positive were his performances in these and past seasons and playoffs, and would you resign him?

I think I know the answers, but I want to be sure.

I thought he was one of our better players in the playoffs. I'd absolutely like to resign him but of course that depends on salary demands.

He's great. I would let him onto the ice for my team anyday. If I had kids I wouldn't let him babysit.

He's very important to the team and I hope he is resigned. He was the best Pen on the ice in a number of postseason games.

Please post more gifs and less well thought out questions.

Expected something to this tune (yours as well, Mr. dbell). Much appreciated.

As for the GIFs, all in due time.

Not a chance you dot fire the best GM in pro sports. He inked therrien to an extention after his failures and then canned him Uriah the season and won the cup. Wouldn't surprise me if the pens get off slow next year we see the same happen to bylsma hopefully with the same end result

Yeah, I don't see Shero's job being in danger. The Pens problem has not been the quality of talent they're fielding.

Love him, very important, probably the bet forward in the ice in the Boston series and always brings energy and can chip in some pints on occasion, absolutely resign him.

Don't call him the best GM in pro sports, not even the NHL. Three or four Flyers fans get upset when you call him that, even though he is.

To shed some light on why I ask, a poster against playing Carcillo tonight cited Cooke as part of his reasoning:

...Might as well just hang yourself instead if you think he's any sort of answer. Hoping he'll do anything effective against the Bruins is an insult to the Bruins. Matt Cooke is twice the hockey player #13 is and he didn't exactly work wonders for the Penguins, did he?...

Now, playing Carcillo is a whole other conversation. But looking at the comparison to Cooke, I felt it really didn't hold, what with Cooke's play being a positive for the Penguins.

Cooke should be resigned. He is a very good third line player for us; valuable on the pk. I actually liked what he did when he was put with Malkin and Neal in game four.
