He will definetly be offered more for other teams
- NYI44

As always. But players recognize Pittsburgh as a great place to be and a chance to get a cup.

I'll say Dupuis will get 3 years, $9M total. Book it.

Here's my thinking though.... if you are going to sign him for 3 at $11 million, why not sign him for 4 at $13 million? You basically get that last year for $2 million, plus it lowers the cap hit from $3.66 to $3.25.
- rival22

because there its no lock dupuis will be worth that 4th year as a what, 38 year old? One thing Shero does that I love is not hamstring himself with long term contracts (star players to the exception) Dupius may still have 4 good-decent years in him, he might not... if year 3 or 4 toy pay a 3rd-4th line 3.blah blah million, the pens could end up regretting it.

Somebody will overpay him, but if he's smart he would stay with the Penguins because he has success there every year because of Crosby
- NYI44

Did you actually read the article? Couldn't be more wrong NYI44. If you put Dupuis on the 3rd line, he'll still have the same value to this team.

I get the impression the Pens think they are a finesse team but the truth is they do best when they go and crash the net. Also a net presence and shots from the points. It takes a quick side step to get a shot off and defensive awareness of what is happening if it's blocked. This failure to go to the net was depressing. Not playing Despres and going only with vets also is depressing.

They are a skilled team. But you are correct, they did not go to the front of the net. Skilled team, unskilled team it doesnt matter, you need to have a net front presence.

I just think he's implying that his offensive success would be diminished were he not playing with the best player in the game.

3 at ten mil... keeps it competative with market value... he may love Pitt, but for a man on his last major deal.. is that love worth millions of dollars? Pittsburgh's the best, but probably not millions of dollars best.

I meant he'll have even more success (points) being with Crosby. I wasn't clear in my other post.

But other teams don't have a Sidney Crosby that he plays with.

The only issue is 4 years from now is he still going to he worth a 3.25 hit or can you get him cfor three years and then if he wants to still play (he's getting up there) then you can get him for less than 3.

I still go back to this (after signing his last contract)...

Q: You decided to take less money to re-sign with Pittsburgh this summer. Why?
A: For us, it’s about being in our comfort zone. We’ve got great neighbors and a great babysitter. When you’ve got a family, it may sound stupid to say, but we know where the doctors are, the dentist, the pet salon. Hockey-wise, it’s a great fit for me. You play in front of a sellout crowd every night, you travel with Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, and other buildings are packed as well because you’re traveling with these amazing players. Pittsburgh is really special to us.

When he was traded to Pittsburgh, it was his 4th team in two seasons... I would think that stability is important to him. He has 4 freakin' kids... is uprooting them and the comfortable situation he has (both at work and at home) worth an extra $500k?

And he's gotta realize that as popular as he is in the room and in the organization, he's gotta realize that after he's done playing, chances are that there is some sort of job available with the Pens if he wants it.

I don't know how many points Dupuis got while playing without Crosby but I'd say his average with or without Crosby is pretty close. The SOB seems to score in every situation

Gunner, do you actually have a PPG/AVG for Dupuis with or without Crosby?

What's the chances of Bryz and Briere being bought out ? If Bryz does, does Homer take any heat from management ?

I think the 4th year would be doing a service to a loyal, intergral part of your team. I also think that the 4th year is more important to Dupuis then more money.

Maybe or maybe not.. it all depends on the cap. If the cap goes up a decent amount, then the $3.25 might not be terrible for a third line winger who can kill penalties, and takes shifts in the top 6 if needed. I don't know...

But if that's the gamble that you have to take to get the next 3 years out of him, than maybe you do.

It might be close but I would think that every player in the game would have more points when playing with Sid

being over loyal to the detriment of the team (possible detriment) is bad business and Shero is anything but a bad business man, IMO

I could see him sticking on Sid's line for 2 years max. regardless of the term he gets. I always thought Dupuis is a "perfect" third line on this team. Hopefully we'll re-sign him for $3M per

Probably is for dupuis and I love dupuis as a player and he's good in the room but if you are running an organization it's important to not have a lot of money invested in 38 year olds. I just think a 3 year deal is much better for the organization. And who knows of he even wants to play 4 more years I know that's what they have been asking but it's probably just a darting point to get the penguins to go three years.

If Dipuis is on the third line, then you really have an insane team

As mentioned before Dupuis could still be a very productive 3rd line player if need be towards the end of his deal. His sample size as an NHL player has shown durability to be one of his assets. He has missed 28 games since the 2006-2007 season. Only 2 games in the last 4 years.

I wouldnt say you have a lot money invested in a 38 year old when he will turn 38 at the end of the last year of his contract.

Dupuis is probably the most non-sexy 1st line player in the entire league...but gets the job done AND more. He better stay! He'll get a job in the organization after his carreer is over without a doubt as someone already said.

It doesn't matter as long as he gets the job done
