Well, CGY apparently offered up the 3 1sts already. With the $6mil earmarked for Letang we could cover Glencross and Giordano. Niskanen wasn't amazing at all, but I think a situation where he is given more responsibility, maybe decreasing time over the season while Despres gets more acclimated could be good. I have said already a few times, PITT should deal Kunitz at the draft as he's not going to get any more valuable to other teams and maybe we could recoup a 1st round pick in return (why not, Jagr/Iginla got 1sts, Morrow got Morrow, etc). In the end PITT would get something like 4 1sts, Giordano + Glencross + whoever else in the COL deal and lose out on Letang and Kunitz, likely rights to Kennedy and a prospect as well...I think in the end we're pretty well off.

If it's the DAL deal, again, Eriksson is a nice target now as he's coming off a so-so year and Letang (if he would sign) would also allow them to move Gogo for a fwd. Maybe DAL wants Kunitz...you get the idea...

i dont know why, but im a little balky at the idea of moving kunitz, even if it nets a low first.

and i still would like someone in a suit to explain to me what the (frank) happened to niskanen. i understand he isnt exactly weber, but jesus christ. i thought he had a nice little skill set, for a bargain price, to bring some athleticism and puck moving ability to the bottom pair. however, he became atrocious.

then theres that awesome decision to pair him with letang once both were atrocious, but weve been into that enough already...

He had a very good year last year....than Sid jinxed it by saying he was going to have a breakout year He was the perfect 5th d-man for this team until this year...

Just looking at everything, the Oilers seem like the optimal destination. 7th overall pick, Smid, and one of their higher end winger prospects not named Magnus.
- cap1681

They don't have higher end wing prospects that we should be even considering unless you consider a kid Yakupov still being a prospect, which he isn't.

The 7th, Smid and a high end prospect that hasn't played in the NHL isn't good enough from Edmonton.

unless he stays at same price or something in the 2mil range... rossi just tweeted talks with his reps and pens started... by end of day dupes will be a pen, just don't know for how long or what .. my guess is 2.35/2yrs

Then you're gonna be real upset.

Whom from their top young players do you think they would be willing to trade in a deal for KL?
I was thinking Yakupov.

yeah, at the risk of being disappointed with the return, i dont really like that package. the 7th doesnt blow me away, smid is alright but nothing to wet the panties over, and i dont really think they have any high end prospects other than their untouchables. id want yak or schultz, and they obviously wouldnt move those.

haha yeah. ultimately though, i could see it being in that 3 year 9 mil range, which wouldnt be as upsetting as losing him though.

i think for better or worse, edmonton doesnt trade any of their top line kids. maybe one or two eventually leave down the line via FA, but i just dont see them trading any of them

I got confused with his prospect comment. Is he still saying RNH is a prospect, or a Yak? They aren't. The seventh pick - gets you a Monahan, Domi or Lindholm type player. Not too bad. Smid - he could help, but ... not enamored with this.

I think Smid would be a great addition to the Pens. Big, physical defenseman who block shots and is a pretty good skater.

Well, he'll ask for a raise for sure next year, into the 4.5 -5 range for sure. Plus he'll be in mid 30's then. Would you prefer GlenX on 2.5 for 2 more years, or Kunitz at 3.75 for 1 year, then whatever he gets after? It saves 1.25 for next year on the cap and at least that much (maybe up to 2.5) the following year...

You could make a case for Drouin over MacKinnon, especially if the Pens are picking #1
- cap1681

You could pick jones, and another D prospect becomes available for another deadline deal. However the thought of Mackinnon alongside Crosby is exciting

I too pass on MagPie. He is the Swedish version of Hemsky, but not as fragile.

No matter what...I'm always confident in Shero's ability to set the team up the best he can. That includes the occasionaly devious trade.
