The year Ewing was drafted was the first year the NBA instituted a draft lottery. A lot of people think it was rigged to get the Knicks the 1st overall pick.

oh I got it.....it's things like this that really shows your age

I was a big NBA fan (knew all the players) until the Sonics left....

If this happens, Pittsburgh may just become the league's most hated franchise. With Crosby already being considered by many conspiracy theorists as the NHL's version of Patrick Ewing, this would cause many people to blow a gasket.
- buffalofan19

We already are the most hated team. So, people would blow a gasket if Colorado traded the top overall pick to Pittsburgh for an established all-star and Norris Trophy finalist that isn't over the age of 30? It's not like Pittsburgh is trading Matt Niskanen for the top overall pick.

Well...if that's the case, I'd draft MacKinnon anyway. He's the best player in this draft and would be Sid's wing for a long long time. We could bring a couple other d-man in separate deals.
- Orpik44

If that happens, BIG IF, you have to draft MacKinnon over Jones - even though I think Jones will be a better pro. With our collection of D prospects, the last thing we need is another.

You could make a case for Drouin over MacKinnon, especially if the Pens are picking #1

Nah! You've got to pick MacKinnon. He's like a light Stamkos and we all know he'd be perfect on Crosby's line. Yeah it's a BIG IF.

Letang is 26 years old, one of the best in the league and Colorado has lots of cap space. It makes sense, but I would bet my money it will not happen.

I'd say there's virtually no chance of it happening, but it certainly opens up a whole plethora of possibilities. Who's to say you have to keep the pick? Some team out there will probably drastically over-pay for that pick. I still say there's only about 10 teams that will be enticing enough for Letang to agree to a long term deal......some of them are unfortunately within our division.

If Letang goes, we need some kind of immediate help on the blue line. No way around it.

Do you think Letang will be traded until June 30th? I'd like to see some news regarding this situation. It sucks to wait that much.

I feel that if you see a signing of Dupuis or any of the Pens other pending FAs before an extension is announced to Letang, then he is gone. Shero wants to get Letang locked up before he starts dealing with other FAs

It will play out exactly like the Staal trade. Letang will refuse to take the Pens best offer and Shero will hit the phones. The only difference I see is there will be more bidders with the possibility of the Pens allowing another team to talk to Letang before making a deal. There's not a draw to another city like there was with Staal. You have to imagine that the Canes were pretty certain Jordan would sign there long term.

With all these insane deals for aging/declining puck movers, I'd say Letang is all but gone.

There is not much else to talk about. We've all went blue in the face talking about the faults/problems from losing to the Bruins, and now we sit here with no news since Malkin signed. I trust Shero to do the right thing, wether it's sign Letang to a long term deal, or trade him and get assets back.

So in the last 7 full periods the Blackhawks have scored 2 goals. I bring this up because it reminds me a lot of the Penguins/Bruins series. So it is a failure to score by the high skill teams, or is it something that the Bruins are doing right?
- Ben37

Yeah... I remember reading some tweets after game one of this series basically making fun of the Pens because the Hawks put 4 by Rask. Not hearing much of that now.

Rask vs Pens - 0.44 GAA / 0.985 SV%

Rask vs Hawks in the last 2 games - 0.45 GAA / 0.984 SV%

I think I would be less pessimistic if they didn't bring back Bylsma....bc now I know iggy isn't going to sign for cheap bc Bylsma was wrong in the way he played him... which means the 1st pick and those prospects were a loss... Shero went all out and then messed it up... same with the way he approached in game situations and the pp...

with iggy gone means a top 6 winger plus a 1st is gone.. same with morrow/morrow trade... Shero went to all out and gave up a top D prospect for a guy who was suppose to be a big part of getting in front of net on pp... yet wasn't used that way... that's on the coach...

now letang might be gone as well, but he is gone bc of money, which means he should be getting a first... I think shero is going to go after a center or D and not a winger if he gets a top 10 pick...

I duno, everyone has there 2 cents and reasons why things are good or bad... these are mine..

Just think, we could have to watch our GM basically forced to trade Mike Richards and Jeff Carter to fit Ilya Bryzgalov under the cap, and then having to buy out Ilya Bryzgalov to fit Mark Streit under the cap.

see my next post.. either or

keeping him will be awesome but then we have to get rid of some guys like iggy, dupuis cooke possibility... with keeping him do u get rid of fluery and go afte a cheaper goalie and a 1st?

losing him will provide a 1st as well as some other assests but if shero gets a top 10 pick, he will go after best avail instead of drafting what he needs.. ie young wingers...

I think if he ends up getting a top 10 pick, he will have to go forward. There are a lot of high end forwards in this draft.

Personally, I don't think you've got too much to worry about. The Pens problems are ones most teams would like to be dealing with. It sucks seeing those resources used on rentals when you don't hoist the cup, but it won't take a miracle to field a competitive roster. And with the quality of your core players, attracting talent really won't be tough.

But as for boredom, if you're interested in the NHL on the whole there'll be plenty to watch. Two days after the final, buyouts start, with the draft and free agency coming very shortly after. I expect lots to go down in that span, especially on our side of the state (at this point, I don't pretend to have any idea what the (frank) the Flyers are doing).
