have you watched filppula play? he plays like datsyuk. he goes to datsyuk's camp that he has in the offseason to train and learn from him. what makes you think he can't be a #1 center?
- matt1337

Agreed, Filpulla is a definite upgrade... he's scored more playing 2nd/3rd line minutes than Bozie has playing 1st line minutes. I have little issue with Bozie on a third line earning $3m or so a year, but more is significantly overpayment

Kulemin is skilled too, doesn't always translate into consistency, goals, and a top 6 role.

True, but Kuli is also asked to take a more defensive role based on us having nobody else who can do it...

Exactly, Bozak would probably have 20pts playing on that Panthers team, Weiss will have better statistics playing alongside Kessel than Bozak. Weiss, easily 60pts+.

I think he's lost all motivation in FLA. Getting him for nothing at a decent cap hit would definitely be a good move. I'm also not opposed to signing Fillipula although I think Weiss would gel better with Kessel.

The same will happen with Filpulla once we realize his season of 66pts was just an aberration, he's overpaid, and he's a 30pt player.

Yet there's no way we can say that until he gets a shot, which he won't with detroit. I'd rather a gamble on him than on Weiss, I think he's a better player, both offensively AND defensively

i dont think it will. the reason the connolly experiment didn't work is because connolly is to slow compared to kessel and lupul. filppula will be able to keep up with kessel and jvr, not to mention has better play making abilities and a better finisher then bozak is

Who's the more consistent player?
- ThePresident

For Weiss last 6 complete years:
2 years in the 40s
2 years in the 60s
1 in the 40s
1in the 50s

Where is the consistency?

Are you serious? Look at his statistics. My god, this is like if Detroit fans were clamoring over Kulemin, and were all pointing to his 30 goal season.

For Filpulla, all seasons in the 30's, one season in the 60's....unless you want a consistent 30 point producer.

I think its unlikely that Filipulla signs anywhere other then Detroit, and very likely that Weiss would sign in Toronto. The argument should be Weiss or Bozak and even then I think if the Leafs could resign Bozak for the price they want they'd keep Bozak.

Andrew Ladd went from that to a 29g mid 50s player and captain.

Weiss is not the answer. He doesn't help this team

Weiss is also 30.

We're just going on opinion here so this could go backwards and forwards ad nauseum with no resolution; myself and others believe that Filpulla is a better player with more upside, you disagree. Time to move on

Filppula
08-09- ppg: 0.5 avg ice: 16:06
09-10 ppg: 0.64 avg ice: 18:14
10-11 ppg: 0.55 avg ice: 16:43
11-12 ppg: 0.81 avg ice: 18:15

notice as his ice time goes up, his point totals go up. on the leafs, if he replaces what bozak plays, 18:50 in 11-12 and 20:18 in 12-13, subsequently you can see his point totals would also go up especially playing with kessel and jvr

Just don't understand the reasoning others are giving, based on what evidence is he the better player? Because he plays for the Wings? Just doesn't make sense to me, based off of statistics alone. Either way, I see the Leafs signing him, so I'll be satisfied, and he'll end up surprising alot of Leaf fans.

I think that's the main thing here; put Filpulla with players like Kes and JvR and I think he'll do extremely well.

Sometimes he looks like a star and sometimes he's completely invisible. I think hes consistently inconsistent but he does have the ability to be a very effective player when he's pushed to produce by playing with better players(Kessel,JVR). He could live up to his potential when he leaves Florida like Horton and Jovo did.

Exactly! It seems every time we all argue about which player would be better we just waste our time because the Leafs always seem to go a different direction then what we thought.
