This Filppula/Weiss debate is pretty funny although I didn't read it all. Not sure if it has been said yet but Filppula 60+ point season, he wasn't even playing center for the Wings...he was playing wing with Zetterberg as the center and Franzen on the other wing. The only time he plays 2nd line center for the Wings is when Datsyuk and Zetterberg play on the same line. He's a decent 2nd line center but not a 1st line center and he plays better as a winger than center.


What's even more funny is that many Wings fans don't want Filppula back at around 5 million per and would prefer getting Weiss thinking he would be better with the Wings than Filppula is. Might just be a case of grass being greener kind of thing I don't know.

Not a big fan of Weiss and I do like Filppula but neither are worth 5 million per. Anything over 4 million per for either I think has a good chance of ending up being a bad contract that teams will end up wishing they hadn't done.

north of 4 for any of the players mentioned is way too high, but sadly they probably all come in at that....some much higher.

You know what, I was really hoping we would move up in the draft but I have to admit I've changed my mind about it. I think we can grab a good player at 21, and a good centre no less. Anyone of Lazar, Compher, Hartman (though he plays the wing now I've read reports he can play centre), or Wennberg could be around at 21, even an outside shot that Horvat falls to us.

Trading up in a draft this deep could burn you, as no one seems to really agree on which player has the highest ceiling. So by trading up you risk losing extra assets for a player who may, in a few years, be lower on the depth chart and further behind in development than the player picked at 21.

Moving up gives you the benefit of catching a player that slips through the top 10. Someone like a Nurse or maybe Monahan could slip to the 10 to 15 hole, is a few teams go off of the board. Twenty one is pretty much for players that are second line or bottom 3 defencemen. I'd rather move an asset and find my way into the top 10, if possible.

Bozak has proved himself a more valuable player to this team. Grabo has developed zero chemistry with any of the top six wingers on this team. He has only really played well with Kulemin and Macca. Bozak has chemistry with the top six wingers, kills penalties, and is a better power play fit than Grabo. It was clear all year Bozak was Carlyle's go to guy, over Grabo.

I'd call them AHL journeymen but Kostka dressed for 35 NHL games this year and Kaberle dressed for 10. I'm not saying Kostka is better. I'm just saying I don't want Kaberle back with the Leafs.

rookie thrown in over his head too soon. Still capable of being a solid 5/6 shutdown PK guy, just has no business playing top pair, which is where they put him.

Hey man, don't get me wrong. If Nonis can find a way of moving up to 10 or so without having to deal away a fortune I won't be unhappy, haha. I just meant I don't think the player picked around 15ish will be leaps and bounds better than the player picked 21ish.
