Bozak is not a good powerplay fit. He's good on the draw and he's Carlyle's "go to guy" because he's been our only player consistent in that role over the last few years.

Grabovski has largely played a shutdown role since he's been here and has faced the top scoring lines of the opposition while Bozak and Kessel have played sheltered, line-matched shifts against lesser opponents over the same period of time.

Grabovski has put up more points consistently playing with lesser players against tougher competition; his Relative Corsi Quality of Competition (yeah, yeah advanced stats haters shut it) is 3rd highest on the team behind only Phaneuf and Kulemin, the latter a regular line-mate.

Yes, Bozak played the PK and took alot of defensive draws, but Grabovski was second in faceoff percentage (behind Bozak by 2%), so the margin between the two players in that regard is pretty narrow.

Agree, but its UFA. And Grabo makes 5.5 as a 3rd liner, something Clarksons agent will be pointing out to Nonis.

This Filppula/Weiss debate is pretty funny although I didn't read it all. Not sure if it has been said yet but Filppula 60+ point season, he wasn't even playing center for the Wings...he was playing wing with Zetterberg as the center and Franzen on the other wing. The only time he plays 2nd line center for the Wings is when Datsyuk and Zetterberg play on the same line. He's a decent 2nd line center but not a 1st line center and he plays better as a winger than center.


What's even more funny is that many Wings fans don't want Filppula back at around 5 million per and would prefer getting Weiss thinking he would be better with the Wings than Filppula is. Might just be a case of grass being greener kind of thing I don't know.

Not a big fan of Weiss and I do like Filppula but neither are worth 5 million per. Anything over 4 million per for either I think has a good chance of ending up being a bad contract that teams will end up wishing they hadn't done.

I've heard the rumours but choose to believe they are false. Probably started by some depraved Oilers fan. I'm holding out hope that Ranger wants to play for the Leafs. Call me but I think he can still play at the NHL level and could take the spot of someone on the Leafs next year.

If there is an issue with a lack of centers, then maybe we should put Grabo up for auction and see what we could get for him. Even moving up a few spots in the draft would be worth moving him. Example: Grabo and our first, for Columbus' first.

You know what, I was really hoping we would move up in the draft but I have to admit I've changed my mind about it. I think we can grab a good player at 21, and a good centre no less. Anyone of Lazar, Compher, Hartman (though he plays the wing now I've read reports he can play centre), or Wennberg could be around at 21, even an outside shot that Horvat falls to us.

Trading up in a draft this deep could burn you, as no one seems to really agree on which player has the highest ceiling. So by trading up you risk losing extra assets for a player who may, in a few years, be lower on the depth chart and further behind in development than the player picked at 21.
