the guy that won. OV. if not him, then Crosby. The Hart may be going the way of the Adams; the coach who's team overachieved always wins. Its never the guy who coached the actual best team. many of you think the best player on the weakest team that snuck into the playoffs is the MVP. check the definition. 'value'. clearly, OV and Crosby are, BY FAR, the most 'valuable' in terms of not only making their team better, but by adding 'value' to their team and, indeed, to the whole league. no one, makes the league more money and brings more attention then OV and Crosby. AINEFC.

finances are not a consideration in the Hart. I agree that OV is the most valuable to his team. Crosby? Pittsburgh didn't miss a beat without him. I don't think he even deserved a nomination this particular year.

the LEAGUE and money arguments have no validity in a hart debate whatsoever.

crosbys team remained elite without him for long stretches and for over more than one season too. tough to say he deserved the most valuable to his team award. he won the ted Lindsay though which makes perfect sense.

an using the word BY FAR doesn't drive your point home further either, its still just your opinion.

I have read the definition. not sure you have though. most valuable to team success. those three imo would be ovechkin, Tavares and bobrovsky. but bobs team didn't make the playoffs which is generally a parameter for nomination

The Oilers are the last team to give advice on how to rebuild. 7 years and counting is not a rebuild, it is ineptitude.

Is it so much different from the Chicago and LA models?

Good comeback skippy. 1st of all, Oilers suck. 7 years and counting and they are still giving advice on how to rebuild. 10 years and counting will come to pass and we will still be hearing how good Ebs and Hall used to be - they will be departed FA's by then. How is that writing there skippy?

Coming from a guy who doesn't display his Team on his profile......wait a minute, neither do I.

Every rebuild is different. I despise the comparisons. If the Oilers become a strong team people will start to point at "The Oilers Model", which any Oilers fan will tell you has been torturous and sad and it would not have been done that way had KLowe not had his head buried in the sand until it was too late.

I agree to a point but to say taxes and weather aren't an important reason why players don't come here is just wrong. Please don't ever compare Detroit and Edmonton again milessssss apart as in hockey clubs. Datsyuk,Zetterberg, just lost one of the best D ever in Lidstrom and still made it to the 2nd round of the playoffs almost the 3rd. The best coach in my eyes in the last ten years not to mention Scott bowmen behind the scences. They also have made the playoffs every year for the last 20 years with afew cups. Except for are lucky run in 06 with Pronger please tell me how we are comparable to the wings again? We had Gretzky, kurri,Coffey,Messier,Fuhr back in the 80s not so much now.

Scotty Bowman plays "behind the scenes" in Chicago, advising Stan Bowman.

I love Dreger and Mckenzie, and even Friedman and Reid are okay in doses, but I cannot watch Stock, Cherry, or Mcguire. I could do a better job than those dumbasses.

In the second round, Stock said of Toews was winning more faceoffs they'd be winning he said quote "you just gotta pull your stick back to win it"

Generally when someone calls me "skippy" or "sport" or "kid" I just kinda nod and give them a mental pat on the head. Usually means they have zero ammo and are attempting to bring the conversation to their level, which means one need only be able to read a Garfield comic to relate.

just had a quick look without spending too much time researching. I don't think it has either.

im not sure how many have even been nominated. iginla in 02 is the only one I can think of.

it's just the way it goes. which makes sense in a lot of ways imo. every team has an MVP. some team success needs to be apart of the equation. cuts the field down this way too.

- hugefemale dog77

I'd have to look into it but yes Iggy was nominated when the Flames missed. I believe Gretzky won his first while missing the playoffs. My argument is simply that the definition of the Hart gets mangled every year. The NHL will never change it because they actually like the ambiguity of it. Read this article. Sums up pretty much what I think.

read it already.

don't really agree as I like the team success parameter in relation to personal success part of the hart trophy. but regardless it's a reasonable article

Yeah, I don't disagree, I'm just blasting out at the (frank)ers who fail to notice that LA missed 7 years of of playoffs in a row, and Chicago missed 13 of 15 or something like that before the most recent string. Neither one were rebuilds for that long either. They both had several failed attempts at patching to gether a team only to fall short(much like the Oilers from 2006-2010).

Overall, I find McGuires total lack of knowledge about the real world, outside of hockey, hilarious.
I remember when the draft was in LA and his co-host was talking about the Twilight premier down the street. PMG says"What the Hell is Twilight?". Cracked me up. All that guy does is watch hockey. He knows his poop. But an absolute blowhard if there ever was one.
