The Oilers are the last team to give advice on how to rebuild. 7 years and counting is not a rebuild, it is ineptitude.

"So if a team that has six - 1st overall picks (Hall, Eberle, Nugent-Hopkins, Klefbom, JSchultz and Yakupov) "by my count there is only 3 1st overall picks?.. or do u mean first round picks?... ur right hockey fans are stupid.
- derm10

Everybody here is a little funny, obviously clouts was being sarcastic..he means they're all so good that they may as well be considered first overalls...
I'm not sold on Klefbom yet, only seen him play one game..looked good though.

I think his point was that our young players are more enticing for a UFA then Calgary's. I do expect calgary to grab some UFA's. Not so much as Feester is stupid but in Calgary they have 2 types of fans. They have the hardcore fans and they have the lower bowl which is mostly purchased by businesses.

Companies want to see SOMEONE playing and hope for a cup run. The person approving the purchase isn't often the one showing up to the games. They are usually bought to give to employees or clients. They want to see a team compete with a player they can cheer for. If they had all of the first round picks this year it wouldn't help them sell to their corporate clients. They don't know often know the name of rookies, they do know the name of a guy like Horton though. The non rebuilding keeps them in money. Without the corporate seat sales the rink wouldn't sell out.

However the Oilers don't need that. We are surrounded to the north by blue collar people that just want to see their team play. They know the names and they have money to spare. We can sell out if we never made the playoffs again due to our market. We don't sell our tickets. People scrounge to get them. In Calgary if you know a handful of the right people you can usually grab corporate seats for free on any given night. I know I have never paid for a game there.

The proof is in watching the games. You will see a bunch of lower bowl seats and you will see a bunch of guys with Jerseys probably bought from the store that night. Then the odd hardcore fan that scored free tickets. With the Oilers you will see Jerseys from the 80s fans from the 1930s and a bunch of guys wearing any Oilers Jersey, t shirt or wife beater they had lying around the hours, filling almost every seat.

On any given night.

This is getting really stupid. The Oilers have not been rebuilding for 7 years. Yes they have missed the playoffs, but rebuilding teams do not chase top end FA's or try to trade for the likes of Heatly. In the 1st 3 years of the '7 year rebuild', the Oilers signed Vanek (yes the offer was matched, but he did sign), Penner, Souray, and tried to sign Jagr, Hossa, etc...

I guess with this logic, the Leafs have been rebuilding since 1967?

You should never start a sentence with a number. How are we supposed to take you seriously when you make grammatical errors such as this?

Good comeback skippy. 1st of all, Oilers suck. 7 years and counting and they are still giving advice on how to rebuild. 10 years and counting will come to pass and we will still be hearing how good Ebs and Hall used to be - they will be departed FA's by then. How is that writing there skippy?

There is something very homoerotic about calling another man skippy. I can assure you that I don't swing that way, you might want to try "thenugeishuge".

I like the fact you're calling out the Flames, miss that old rivalry, sadly it's been over 20 years since it was relevant.

1. Your jokes are as old as the rebuild.
2. If you are going to talk about how much our team sucks, the least you can do is post a team YOU cheer for so we can call you a bandwagon jumper if they are a playoff team. and if they are not, then well your team is no better then ours cause if you are not first, you might as well be last.
3. I like peanut butter. (Mmmmm.... Skippy.)

Edit.
4. You forgot 2nd of all.

I believe that Ovechkin went back on the steroids... Some of you may call that an unfair accusation, but I don't give a sh1t. With every ounce of my being, I truly feel that he is taking steroids. What's the penalty if he gets caught? Suspended for a while, and maybe get canned from the NHL... Oh no!!! Please don't send me back to my home country, where I can make just as much money and sleep with Russian models every day... Oh no!!!

And that's BS, RC... Don't just limit it to hockey fans being stupid -- when it comes to sports, everyone is an idiot... Hockey analysts/writers/GMs all fail in their predictions FAR more than they succeed. Nobody really knows anything.

- laughs2907

You mean just drinking water? When he was 18, everybody was having wines but Ovechkin was the only one who was drinking just water. Everybody just search for Negative when it comes to Ovechkin. He is very strong guy too.

So if a team that has six - 1st overall picks (Hall, Eberle, Nugent-Hopkins, Klefbom, JSchultz and Yakupov) can't attract high-end UFA's...do you honestly think the Iggy-less, Kipper-less, Bouwmeester-less Flames will? Lot on your knife.Quote from Clouts blog.
Let me see Eberle, Klefbom and J Shultz, since when did they get drafted first overall.

When you refer to other people, in this case Feaster, as intellectually challenged, you may want to spell it correctly. It's 'stupid' not 'stoopid'........stupid.

So I was told that CBCs said edmonton and Carolina are talking? Who said it? If that's the case you have to think edmonton wants barkov or Monahan and Carolina wants nurse. Nischuskin is the wild card and if he goes to Tampa, edmonton could get barkov at 5. If not, taking Monahan at 5 is likely what we do.

5th for 7th and anaheims second perhaps?

- ystoil

Best thing (draft-wise) that could happen for us is for Colorado or Florida to trade their first for all of calgary's firsts. Let calgary take mackinnon if he's there. I feel that both teams see themselves as deep at centre and would be better served to add pieces elswhere. If that happens either Barkov or Monahan will be there at 7.

I just don't understand why Calgary wouldn't want to stand pat and have lots of ammo in the first round. If what the pundits say is true and this draft is similar to 2003, what would you have given for 3 picks in that first round?

You can dub this as the next 2003 but we won't know until ten years down the road. Safer to take the most guaranteed player. That's likely their mentality. You could be Anaheim and end up with Getz and perry or Philly with Richards and carter. But you could also pick the busts like pouliot, Nilsson, and jessiman. Just depends on their take on the talent.

I'd probably stand pat.
