Really? Is he ahead of Klefbom and Marincin? I will garauntee that Mrincin plays a minimum of 40 NHL games next season.
- Jeropotato

If Marincin can emerge in training camp this year. Have a good rookie season we will be living the dream. That guy is exactly what we need. 6 foot five with a two way game. If both he and Klefbom play the way scouts predict they will, our defense won't be a concern anymore. It will be interesting to see how they do at training camp.

wow that's a heavy guarantee. I'd say he should get maybe 8-9 games. Decision making, language barrier, and size all problems

I agree. And not as though Lindholm is a Hobbit, either. He wont be that beastly Center everyone is talking about, but a solid 6'0, 200lb'er is big enough.

A year from now there will a poopload of good D available in free agency as well. Even an older guy for a few years would help provide a gap for Marincin and Klefbom to develope, and provide depth once they do.

Look at these outstanding talents!

Dion Phaneuf,Jay Bouwmeester,Nik Hjarlmarsson,Brooks Orpik,Danny Syvret,Dennis Seidenberg,Kris Letang,Andrei Markov,Dan Boyle...sure,most will be extended before then, but if the team shows improvement we could interest one of them.

- Jeropotato

how the (frank) does danny syvrey make it on that list?

also if Monahan is gone. EDM should take Ristolainen or Nurse. Probably Ristolainen because of what he's proven in a men's league, safer pick.

EDM needs a top pairing D man, and if people aren't dealin'em they gotta develop them

That's quite the guarantee. His ceiling is probably higher than both of them though.

Oh yeah, Schultz will be a legit #1 I think, but he needs a Seabrook type as a partner. Maybe that will be Klef eventually, maybe Nurse,or maybe we go after that guy in free agency or by trade one of these summers. As for this draft, I would be okay with the BPA,regardless of position.
- Jeropotato

apparently klefbom is compared to seabrook type player by scouts.

That's what I figure. Nobody is giving up quality dmen without paying a kings ransom. Chances are not all of them will turn out but say J.Shultz, Klebom, Marincin, and Nurse all develop into top 4 dmen. Oh darn. We either have the best defense in the leaugue, we have cap troubles and deal 1 or 2 for high end draft picks or prospects, or we deal them for good forwards to round out our lineup. Too much talent is never a problem.

So no Knight. Sounds like CGY will potentially be taking a bad contract along with him in a deal.

If he's signing there, and is a free agent in a week or two, why on earth would they take a bad contract?

I thought he's a UFA August 15th.

But even if I'm missed up as there is different (frank)ing rules for different guys depending where they are in their College careers. It's CGY they've made it clear they play by their own rules.

Honestly though, if you think the guy can help you why take the chance? Plus Feaster is trying to load up on bad contracts. I guess it is very possible a guy like Upshall gets his poop together and all of a sudden come TDD you have an asset that you can get younger with.

The #Oilers will not be getting Corban Knight

Bob Stauffer ‏@Bob_Stauffer 13h
My guess is that the #Flames will be making a deal for Corban Knight's rights

Bob Stauffer ‏@Bob_Stauffer 11h
For those asking @CorbanKnight holds the cards in where he goes. Am told he has family connection to #Flames. Good opportunity for him there

Apparently he touched base on this on the radio at some point yesterday as well.

I think you answered yourself here. Predicting dmen is tough to do. Nurse very well might not be the best choice. There are 3 good dmen at pick 8. However they will go in line with our others and fight for ice time in the AHL in 2 years because of our defensive depth.

To get a top dman you do have to pay a kings ransom. It would cost a top forward which is what trading up would get us. Which IF POSSIBLE is less risk than any other pick. The top 6 are pretty solidified by most scouts. I agree Lind would be a forward prospect but he would be our only forward prospect getting serious consideration.

So the answer? Pay the kings ransom when they are RFA's. Right when you see the talent, try to grab one by offer sheet. You called me out for saying it but by doing this we get a top D prospect that we are sure of and skip the trial/development part. However to do this we have to pay more in salary.

Everyone keeps thinking that the cap is going to be 64 mil forever. It won't even be that after this next season. Find a team that is stuck, like St. Louis or Vancouver and send an offer sheet. I am also up for overpaying for rask instead. You don't need to improve our d with rask in net. Our current d are better than Boston's. We can argue that but they are.

So lets all agree that 6.7 mill for rask for 8 years. Best idea on the table. No over priced dmen needed. If you think about it, this will save us money paying a "kings ransom" for defense. We give up our first and third pick next year. Then we trade Duby to Phoenix for their first pick. We just upgraded our pick since they don't have a team put together and are going to put the cheapest one they can out there. Rask will cost us 3 mil more than Dubey but Rask can play almost every game if needed so he is almost a backup and starter.

If Boston matches then their team is in trouble with the cap. Which means a less powerful boston to contend with in the years to come.

I'm all for an offer sheet. Even multiple offer sheets till someone doesn't match. I don't want us even thinking about drafting in the 1st round next year. I'm just very much against doing it for a player that has only played half a year in the league(Jake Muzzin). I don't want this team to suck again this year and giving up picks in next years draft gives us some incentive to ice a good team and ensure we're not giving up a Tyler Seguin and Dougie Hamilton situation. I'd even consider throwing an offer sheet Cal Clutterbuck's way and hope Minnesota doesn't match. Him and Hall would have to shnoodle and make up but we could really use a banger like that and would probably only give up 2nd rounder doing so.

I'm all for Ference. Plays top 4 on a perennial Stanley Cup contender. Sherwood Park boy. Bring him home. I think Gags will get more than the 4.25 you have suggested and I think the deal will be longer than 3 years. Hell no to Dustin Penner. I was real gung ho on Horton too but with all of his recent health issues, shoulder and concussions, I don't know if that is the right player for us. Who knows what's gonna happen though really? So many different variables to factor in. There could be some real quality guys that get bought out this year too. Less than 2 weeks before poop hits the fan at the draft. Gonna be exciting to see how it all plays out

I think in terms of goaltenders, Ben Scrivens might be a good backup, as well as a realistic option, for the Oilers. He's from Spruce Grove, which is 30 minutes from Edmonton, and he may be willing to come here. It's plausible due to the fact that we have no backup goalie. Maybe somewhere in the second round in this draft we should aim for a quality goaltender. Jerry and Fucale would be excellent for us. Not right away by all means but definatly in a year or two.
