Ugh
There's no reason the team needs to be brutal again in year 4 of a rebuild. If they concentrate on draft picks, unknown russians and giving huge minutes to rookies, then yes its almost guaranteed. Predicting this doesnt make you some sort of seer. Its inevitable.
But that's not whats gonna happen imo.. Forever losing isnt the only way to build a team. We dont only need superstar signings to become competitive. we need solid pieces and the right role players put in the right positions to succeed. Look at bostons 4th line. dominant.
In fact, financially speaking, outside of throwing some assets at a quality dman, we probably shouldnt be going after superstar players.
Its about depth. Which we dont have. But are certainlycapable of acquiring whether the free agent list this year as a ton of superstar names or not. what it does have is some quality pieces that could absolutely get us to the next level - hugefemale dog77
Boston far and away has the best 4th line in the league. Thorton, Campbell, and Paille. |

I noticed julien giving tons of ice time to paille towards the end and in the OT. he was fantastic. but apparently clouts wouldn't call him 'quality', and that signing a guy like him is inconsequential cause he doesn't score 40 goals. |

Pretty much what everyone else said about him. He was an overpaid bum that only really ever had a good playoff run. You know. The truth. - Ihatebrianburke
Pretty much nailed it than... He looks like a fish as well. |

Hey Clouts, did you read Lowetides Blog on ON. He talked about a WOW trade. Not saying it's going to happen (nobody can), but what do you think of this deal if it actually happened?

Richard Cloutier: What Do You Know? - Maxbone
Oilers can't afford to suck for another year. They need to be able to push for the playoffs, there is no sense trying to break Toronto's record for most seasons missing the playoff's. You can't build a team thru drafts only, you need to trade for the supporting staff which the team does not have enough of. You can't just rely on prospects either, because that is just what they are, prospects. They may look good in the AHL and then suck in the NHL. |

They are that good that the league gave them official 1st overall status. There was a ceremony and medals were given out by Alexandre Daigle |

Pronger has had the most impact on this team in the last 23 years followed by Rolson. We would have been in the playoffs every year he was here. |

So I was told that CBCs said edmonton and Carolina are talking? Who said it? If that's the case you have to think edmonton wants barkov or Monahan and Carolina wants nurse. Nischuskin is the wild card and if he goes to Tampa, edmonton could get barkov at 5. If not, taking Monahan at 5 is likely what we do.
5th for 7th and anaheims second perhaps? |

That could work if Carolina is really sold on nurse, maybe you have to add somebody like plante or teubert (even though the aren't what we hoped they may thrive in Carolina for some reason or another) |

I agree wholeheartedly. He only showed up for half a season. There are certainly many players more deserving than him. |

"So if a team that has six - 1st overall picks (Hall, Eberle, Nugent-Hopkins, Klefbom, JSchultz and Yakupov) "by my count there is only 3 1st overall picks?.. or do u mean first round picks?... ur right hockey fans are stupid. |

Another Brutal season? Depends on your definition of Brutal. I can see some improvement.Maybe a 10th place finish in the West. All depends on the quality coming in. - Jeropotato
I Agree.
I don't see the Oilers season as one that can be predicted right now. Not without knowing who is filling the pieces we let go. Especially the back up hole we are going to need to fill. I think a Yan Dannis type signing for that spot would signal another high end draft pick. We need someone that can play 20 games of decent tending. If we get that the Oilers are unpredictable in my books.
We got a young team that this year finally gets a training camp. A new coach. I rested and healthy top line (hoping RNH rebounds quickly). These young players aren't just going to improve by putting an all star beside them. They are also going to get better each year. Last year we made a good run but missed. This year we could go right into the middle of the pack of 8.
The Oilers have strengths in their corner. They are easily underestimated and thus often face backup goalies. They have to have a better schedule this year. No 9 game road trip playing back to back nights. Plus our team is young and we can put out two strong lines when some in our conference can only put out one.
I am not saying they won't finish dead last, I am just saying that calling this a rebuild year before we even see the team skate is premature. |

iheard a rumbling that halak was avail. I wpuld think a pick and a mid lvl prospect would be worth giving up to aquire him.
as for the first round pick, Im of the thinking we need to trade it. clouts drives me nuts with his thinking that a team filled with rookies will be a contender. its takes depth and balance. trade the pick, I'm sure theres a few teams that would bite.
