How do NJ goalie prospects look? I only know of Wedgewood and only saw him in the world juniors. If any of their prospects look to have promise, dealing for a goalie is not entirely necessary. However, if they don't look like a potential number 1 NHL goalie, I would be pushing hard to get Bernier. Perhaps even try to get one of Anaheim's goalies as they have two good NHL guys in Hiller and Fasth and have John Gibson coming up who looks to be a gem.

Wedgewood and Kinkaid are the two main guys that will probably take over. After this year, Kinkaid will have three years of AHL experience. I am personally pretty high on Kinkaid. I think it will go exactly as someone above explained it to.

Devils will sign a goalie when Marty retires for two years (or more depending on who) who will tandem with probably Kinkaid because he is more experienced, and then Kinkaid will take over after that. Wedgewood still hasn't played a full AHL season, and I think it will be foolish to expect him to play NHL duties after just one AHL season in 2014.

As to their potential, none may be all-star goalies, but I think both have a very good chance of being a solid reliable starter, see pre-vertigo Hiller for example.

I personally think that the Devils don't need Bernier. As much as I would love to have him, I think we need to keep the pieces that we would have to give up to get him. Anything that I wouldn't mind giving up to get him will easily be topped by another team, at least I would think so.

Bernier is a solid goaltender, definitely all star potential, which I'm not quite sure the Devils have in their nets. However, he'd cost the Devils a player of circumstance and I'm not sure it's time to pull that trigger.

I don't think the Devils get Bernier.

Depends on the price. If the goalie market lowers his value similar to Halak a couple years back then I'd say we should definitely pull the trigger. Not exactly sure what we'd do with 3 goalies.

I may just be a biased Kings fan but Bernier is in the top 15 best goaltenders in the league.

Those who have really seen him play knows how good he is. I guarantee that if he was in the east, he would have been a starter for 2 years now.

You just have to remember that young players on the west coast have to be much better that their counterparts in the east in order to get the same recognition.

Hard to put him in the top 15 when he hasn't started a full season. Its a lot more pressure when you are the every day goalie. Not that bernier won't be able to handle it, but he wouldn't be the first goalie to fizzle out.

I am concerned about goaltending for next yr. When Marty came back from his injury he seemed to be guessing. It did not show because the Devils were limiting teams to low shot totals. Hedberg was awful for a stretch.

Yeah, don't think so. If he was top 15 he'd be pushing Quick for the starting job in the LA net. Could he turn into a top 15 goalie, yeah sure. But he's not right now.

2 seasons ago (2010-2011) he was. The Kings started training camp without a clear cut #1. Quick got the 1st shot and the team went 12-3 to start the year which pretty much ended any chance for Bernier to become the #1.

Going into that camp, Bernier was the overwhelming choice among the fans to be our starter.

I really don't see the devils making any stellar trades. They have a lot of prospects and picks to trade , but they need those prospects themselves.

The Kings don't really need many picks, they either need other highly touted prospects or bonafide players for they are in win now mode.

Just read on The Fourth Period that if the Wild can't resign Backstrom, they will trade him. St. Louis is either gonna trade Halak or Elliott. Ducks are dangling Hiller. Sabres trying to trade Miller of course and if Toronto get Luongo, they will trade Reimer.

So it's not as if they don't have options if they go that way.

I agree if it's a buyer's market, if he could be had for a former first and a second or one of the minor league Gs and a good minor leaguer (with top 9 potential), but Jersey doesn't have much to offer that they don't need. A spare D or two. Out of all available goaltenders, Bernier's definitely on the top of the list. If it costs Henrique and causes turmoil in the crease... well some teammates might not like how Hedberg gets handled.

As a Kings fan, I'd like to see this deal simply to get Bernier out of the Western Conference. He'd be a perfect fit in NJ, but the Devils need to make the break from Brodeur, and there doesn't seem to be a willingness to do that yet....Whoever acquires Bernier will not be sorry.

First off sorry to hear about your head and hope you feel better.

Of all the teams who could be looking for a goalie I want Bernier to be a Devil. Im not even a Devil fan. Would love to see him behind Marty for a year or so and ease some of that pressure and slowly take over from the MAN.

Id like one of Merrill or Matteau. Outside of those two guys I dont see how any deal could go down.

best I can do is Hordichuk's rights and a 6th round pick?

but if you don't bite on that, something centred around MPS?

EXACT QUOTE from Pierre LeBrun: " Jonathan Bernier will finally escape Jonathan Quick's shadow in L.A. A source told ESPN.com Friday that the Los Angeles Kings have spoken with about 10 clubs about Bernier’s availability"

Nowhere does he say the Kings have contacted 10 teams and none have called them. Typical Hockeybuzz bush league reporting at it's best.

Smart money has him going to CGY or NYI. I could see the NYI as more likely:

Nedo + 15th <-> Bernier + Good Prospect or 2nd round pick

If Bernier was top 5 he would hardly be pushing Quick for starting. Top 15? Not close. Quick is the 1st or 2nd best goalie in the world, especially in the Playoffs... Can't think of a single guy I would take over Quick.
