Probably shouldn't have demoted him from starting goalie to press box attendant after one bad playoff period when he was a rookie, which is kind of what started the whole process of signing Bryzgalov.
- Jsaquella

As if on cue...

Again, I'll say that even if a coach had mishandled the goalies, they should not be in such a sorry state that all hope of good goaltending rests on 1. A rookie playing in his first season in NA 2. Brian Boucher 3. Michael Leighton

The front office still had a choice to not overreact, no matter what the coach did. The fact is, it only brought to attention the complete cluster(frank) that has been the Flyers' goaltending situation for the past decade, at least. Lavi might've played the goalies wrong, but he didn't have much to work with, and the front office did what they always do with goalies, (frank) it up.

I'd highlight the "gotta have" guys. If one is on the board, grab him. If not, start picking up the phones.

It's something they should always explore if the deal is a good one.

Think everybody knows trading Bob away was a huge mistake....You could see the kid had mad skills but he had some flaws. The goalie he was last season in Columbus position wise, was not the goalie he was in Philly. Bill mentioned, you would have never thought he was 6'2 the way he played in net here. I know I was shocked when I found out how tall he was. Hopefully Mason turns out to be a good find and good trade.

Exactly. I think he should have been more confident going back to Bob after that 1 bad period.

I blame Snider more than Laviolette. But Laviolette's piss poor handling of the goalies prompted Snider's idiotic overreaction.

Bobrovsky played well as a rookie. Was basically the starter for the entire season. Had a good first game. Then had a bad period in game two. Laviolette's reaction? To demote Bobrovsky to the press box.

That kind of screams that the coach has lost his faith in the guy. People seem unable to understand that just because somebody mentions one name, they're not laying all the blame on that one guy.

Glad Bob won it this year..Nice story..
Jim Carey also won a Vezina in his first full season then never did anything again.
Pretty sure I want to see Bob do it for 3-4 seasons before I put him in the Patrick Sharp realm

As soon as Bryzgalov signed the 9 year deal the only question left about Bobrovsky was what kind of return would the Flyers get in the trade.

Except that the GM discovered him in the first place. Probably was not real happy about giving Bob away except that, as in the trade of Patrick Sharp, it gave him a chance to blossom elsewhere. This whole mess is at the hands of the meddling of the owner.

And the quotes I posted totally back up that opinion.

What if Laviolette realized Bob was totally in over his head? I remember hearing Bob saying that he was not mentally prepared for the playoffs. At least I would assume something like that might've happened instead of blaming it on the coach.

And if Laviolette was to blame for Snider's overreacting, do we really want a coach to manage the team so he doesn't make his owner do something incredibly stupid? The fact that we are even discussing things like that show how ridiculous this team handles goalies or anything that involves lots of patience and development.

Hell, even if he had just kept the kid dressing as the back-up. Goalies stumble, but going from starter to street clothes is a big drop

it reeked of panic and desperation. just like his move of putting leighton back in after having played all of one, ONE, nhl game the entire season back in january (which didn't go very well). it's such a shame they couldn't have some (frank)ing patience for once when it really mattered most.

all i can do is pray mason rediscovers his rookie form.
