and the trade gagner u mean? cause hodgson a top 6 center. not really viable on the 3rd. neither is gags. we'd have to be convinced hes the superior choice.
I suppose id consider it if we had a deal in place for gags. - hugefemale dog77
That's true
Gagner & Hodgson are too similar for that to make sense
The targets for u guys that make sense to me,
Are Vanek & Myers
Vanek would have to agree to an extension though, otherwise it'd be dumb for u guys to give up what it'd take to get him
You've apparently had interest in Stafford and Sekera in the past,
Both would help u and cost much less to get (2nd round pick?)
And Ott would be a guy any team would love to have,
But we won't trade him unless he asks... And we already turned down a 1st from a playoff team, singe might cost more than anyone is willing to give |

This past year showed how weak the Oil are at centre, if Horcoff leaves we barely have 2 NHL centres... Hodgson, regardless of what line he plays on, will be better than what the Oil have.
Unless there's a deal out there to get a top 2 Dman, I'm looking for a centre or a big 2LW if I'm the Oil |

Stafford a couple years ago maybe. right now, hes a sideways move for us. and yes id be interested in sekera. but not as the main piece plus some throw ins for the 7th.
smid's some of the only 'snarl' we have. cant afford to lose him really.
besides, Schultz isn't a huge step down from him anyway.
ill throw in musil, if u throw in a 4th..
myers and a 4th
7th, n.schultz, and musil - hugefemale dog77
Schultz just doesn't really fit for us bc we have pretty much the same player in Weber
I wouldn't be surprised if the Sabres and Oilers do make some type of deal though
Major deal for 7, maybe
A less splashy deal could def be made too though
Why do I keep seeing Oiler fans offer up Musil?
I'd love to get him
I think he'll be one of your better defensemen for a long time |

vanek is a fantastic scorer no doubt. just don't think he fits our needs. and like u said. especially for what we'd have to give up.
in that top 6, I think all we really need is a bickell type player to create space for the nuge and ebs.
id deal a 2nd for sekera without a doubt.
and of course we'd love ott |

True, but then what center do u put out there against other top centers?
I know Horcoff is overpaid, but u guys aren't spending to the cap anyways...
Isn't he pretty decent to match up against the other teams top lines?
I'm not calling him Datsyuk or anything, but he's "ok" right? |

I think Bickell is def a guy u should go after
Chicago is up against the cap, so there's no way they can pay him
It'll cost ya, bc there will be plenty of bidders for him after how good he's been this playoffs |

hmmm
myers, sekera and 3rd
7th, smid and musil
his skating is average, and I think true shutdown guys might be a little easier to find than the skill set our other d prospects like marincin and gernat possess.
not hatin on musil. just rather keep those 2 and he does have value as a tradeable piece. |

That trade could work for both sides
I think it would be a mistake for u guys to trade Musil though, he's gonna be really good IMO
If u guys keep #7, do u think you'd go w Nurse? Or take whichever is still there between Monahan & Lindholm? |

really dunno. I think they'd pick nurse/ristolainen for sure if we didn't already have a number of strong defensive prospects coupled with low end offensive ones.
don think they'll take lindholm though. between the other 3 |

I LOVE Lindholm... so I hope u do pass on him...
He's the perfect #3 Center for u guys
I know he doesn't have "size"
But I think he's really comparable in style to guys like Zetterberg or Bergeron
He can play against other teams' top lines & let the RNH & Gagner lines focus on offense
I think Nurse is "boom or bust"
He could be the perfect partner for J.Schultz though if he works out
Ristolainen is a safe pick, and would be a great partner for Petry
Do u think u guys most likely trade the pick for help now though? |

What about Hodgson for the 7th? - BigDre
no.
if miller is even going to step foot in edm, dubnyk is going to step foot in buffalo or take hemsky or horcoff term and we'll work out something else again for 7th pick. |

we're so soft though. we need size, toughness and tenacity all the way through our lineup. I just don't see us taking him.
and yes, I think mact is actively shopping that pick for defensive help. I think he'll trade the pick if he can find even a reasonable deal. |

Right?!!!
Ppl on here are sooo obsessed w the thought that we NEED a "superstar"
Boston is doing pretty good, and every major contributes on their team was a 2nd round pick or lower...
Except Rask (late 1st) and Horton (3rd overall, but he's never lived up to what he was supposed to be- good, but not great)
Especially in this draft, I'd like as many 1sts as possible in the top25...
I'd like us to trade Miller and Vanek,
I think we can get a 1st + for both of them
That gives us FOUR 1sts in the deepest draft in 10years
That's how u rebuild!

Why? I'd do that trade in a minute. Basically what you have is Miller, who has 1 year left on his contract and won't re-sign here, and Pysyk who was decent but in my opinion isn't more than maybe a #4 D. If we get the top pick we take MacKinnon I believe and I'd take him over Grigerenko a billion times over. |

Right?! Just nuts
What's Philly gonna do in net?
I thought Bryzgalov was finally gonna be the guy you've been missing, but I just have the worst luck w goalies!
How many Philly fans are gonna committ "Harry-Cary" if Bobrovsky wins the Vezina? |

I don't think ppl realize how good Grigorenko is gonna be
Ppg player... MacKinnon will prob be better though, but I don't think he's gonna be on the level of Crosby or Stamkos either
Don't be surprised when McNabb-Pysyk becomes our top def pair...
It's not gonna take as long as u think
Miller can get us a good return if we trade him separately, 1st +
And #8 is honna still get us a very good player (hopefully Lindholm!)
MacKinnon just doesn't justify giving all that up IMO |

There's no way either of us can know now, but I think MacKinnon is going to be the Crosby of this decade. |

I can see how you'd be willing to give up pretty much anything for him then
I don't think he'll be THAT good though
And it seems like I have a higher opinion than u on Grigorenko & Pysyk
I'd like to see us get as many 1sts as possible and add These guys to our next "core"
For me, that's how I'd rebuild
And I really doubt Colorado trades that pick anyways |

I think there's a shot we get him this summer. now or never really.
if not and he has another mediocre season we wont want that contract. or if he tears it up and starts really fulfilling that promise again, the sabres wont deal him

To everyone thinking we should trade for #1...
It's gonna take a Lindros-like deal for that to happen, right?
Just remember,
It was Colorado that ended up winning multiple cups,
NOT Philly
Just sayin |
