It's okay to disagree with me on the Orr and McLaren thing, I see where people are coming from, my perspective, I rather they sign a tough top 6 winger and balance it out and not have two cement hands on the fourth line, the division next year is all speed, need that fourth line to play a bigger role through the 82 games. - LeafMan
Like who?
That's the rub.
Sign Orr - if you do go with "The LeafMan plan" you can still jettison Orr.
This gives us options. |

I addressed it in my latest post above, I want that gritty top six forward to balance it out. - LeafMan
clarkson would be great.. but costly |

How Costly?? Like 4.5 Costly or 5.5 Expensive?? Who gets more him or Horton?? |

No comparison. Thornton is much more skilled then Orr. - Vukota
Thats a bold statement. |

i thought anything up to 999K could go down without a hit? - Dozzer
From everything I've read, it is minumum salary + $375,000, which apparently this year worked out to $900,000.
So peanuts, yes, but as you know I strive to have all posts here at Hockeybuzz 100% accurate. |

Clarkson would be my first choice, that extra million they gave Orr, I would have used negotiating for the player, Orr did not need to be signed so early, Again just my opinion. |

Too much for Orr but important to resign him. He's learning to be the Shaun Thornton of the Leafs.
It will be interesting to see if UFA's stop not signing with the Leafs now that they made the playoffs and seem to be trending upwards. If they do, they need size and grit up front and size and puck movers on the back end just like everyone else.
The bidding wars are going to be stupid. Look for more trades than usual and more guys not signing until late in the summer for Vokoun like money. - therealagent
I'd say that it's on par. Look at Parros' contract which is about the same thing. |

The extra million they gave Orr has absolutely no relevance to Clarkson.
If they sign Clarkson and decide there is no room for Orr, they send Orr to the Marlies. His cap hit would be about $75,000 a year.
Hell, Orr might not even clear waivers. |

We never play our youth, so we never know what they are capable of, which is really sad. Blacker has been down in the AHL for a while now, i think its time we give him a chance and use our RFA gunner as trade bait. And since Carlyle has a fetish for left handed defenders playing the left and right handed defenders playing the right, i think blacker should be given a shot since he is indeed a right handed defender that could fill a spot on the 3rd pairing of defense which we don't have alot of right handed defenders in our system |

Ha ha ha - too funny! I think you have solved the mystery of how they came up with the number.
And my bad: I had it in my head he was $975,000 per year.

Lets not call him a genius yet, until he starts pulling some burke magic tricks(hopefully he got a few pointers when he was with him), then we can call him a genius |

well it certainly should make the opponents of the signing feel better. knowing full well that orr could be dropped and be completely wiped from the cap if he doesnt work out.
i expect mcclaren will be looking at something around 700K.. the qualifying offer for him this year is $660K |

No thanks.
With his concussion history and what looks to be a weak-ass shoulder, not interested in paying him $5M+.
